Please be informed that from 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰–𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, DOST Davao del Sur will implement limited on-site office services to accommodate personnel participation in the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) and Handa Pilipinas in Davao City. During this period, clients may contact the office through its hotline at 𝟬𝟵𝟰𝟱-𝟯𝟯𝟲-𝟬𝟰𝟬𝟯 for inquiries and assistance regarding their transactions.

Please also be advised that there will be no scheduled office operations on 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 (𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆), in accordance with the office's compressed workweek schedule.

𝗦𝗨𝗟𝗢𝗣, 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗔𝗢 𝗗𝗘𝗟 𝗦𝗨𝗥 — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗪) 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿 highlighted the role of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) to inclusive and sustainable development through the 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧: 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

The two-day event brought together various STI programs, innovations, institutions, and initiatives through exhibits, demonstrating how 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 can translate ideas and research into solutions that respond to the needs of communities and different sectors.

Under 𝙒𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, the exhibits showcased how innovation, research, and technology commercialization can contribute to economic opportunities, support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and strengthen competitiveness. Featured exhibits included 𝗝𝗧𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀, 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗜𝗻𝗰. The 𝙒𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 pillar featured STI initiatives that support disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and community resilience. Exhibits from 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗦𝗔, 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗖𝗦, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗚𝗨 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗲-𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 demonstrated how science, technology, information, and digital solutions can help address vulnerabilities in communities, infrastructure, agriculture, health, and the environment.

The 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 pillar showcased solutions that promote responsible and long-term development. Featured exhibits included 𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗜 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿, 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗖 𝗧𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗼, 𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼), 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥&𝗗 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮 reflecting efforts that integrate innovation with environmental responsibility, community development, and the needs of future generations. Other exhibits showcased include 𝗔𝗗𝗗𝗨 𝗔𝗗𝗗𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 and 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘄.

Beyond showcasing technologies and innovations, the interaction between exhibitors and visitors fostered meaningful knowledge exchange and strengthened connections between STI institutions and communities, reinforcing the role of science, technology, and innovation in addressing local needs and advancing inclusive and sustainable development.

As the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in Davao del Sur highlights the role of science, technology, and digital innovation in building a resilient future, agriculture took center stage through the forum “𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲” held on September 14, 2026, at the Sulop Civil Society Center, Sulop, Davao del Sur. The side event brought together farmers, agricultural practitioners, local government representatives, researchers, agricultural students, and other stakeholders to explore how science, data, and emerging technologies can help address agricultural challenges and support more informed decisions in the field.

Organized by DOST Davao del Sur in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Sulop and Davao del Sur State College, the forum featured Dr. Gilbert A. Importante, Consortium Director of Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC), who presented “Innovations on Agriculture,” highlighting the use of artificial intelligence, data analysis, vulnerability assessment, and precision agriculture in addressing emerging agricultural challenges. Meanwhile, Prof. Moises A. Dorado, Project Leader of SARAI CeNTRO and Professor at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), presented SARAI, or the “Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry,” sharing insights on agrometeorology, Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing, agricultural engineering, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in agriculture. The DOST SARAI team, represented by Engr. Leo Neil T. Viado, Project Technical Officer, also shared the drone technology, showcasing how earth observation and digital tools can support agricultural and environmental monitoring.

The forum demonstrated the practical value of bringing science, technology, and innovation closer to farmers and local stakeholders, offering new approaches for informed decision-making, resource management, risk assessment, and agricultural planning. By connecting experts, farmers, and local governments, the activity helped bridge the gap between emerging technologies and their practical application in communities.

Beyond presenting new technologies, the activity embodied RSTW’s call to harness Science, Technology, and Digital Innovation for Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilience. It underscored that innovation creates lasting value when grounded in local realities and supported by collaboration. Initiatives such as this transform knowledge and partnerships into practical solutions, contributing to a smarter, more productive, and resilient agricultural sector in Davao del Sur.

The annual event brings science, technology, and innovation closer to communities by presenting research, innovations, government programs, and practical solutions that can address local development challenges through STI exhibits, fora, and other related activities.

The speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration among government, academe, industry, local communities, and other development partners in transforming research and innovation into accessible and practical solutions for farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and local communities. Through 𝘒𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘗𝘐𝘈, the participating institutions were able to communicate the value of science and innovation in clear and practical terms. The program also provided the public with information on how government-supported technologies, academic research, and collaborative initiatives can contribute to more resilient communities and a more competitive local economy.
