๐ฆ๐๐ก ๐๐ข๐ฆ๐, ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ โ Six municipal fisherfolk in the Province of Dinagat Islands received fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) boats with marine engines from the Department of Agriculture โ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) on Thursday, August 6, 2026 as part of the agency's efforts to strengthen the livelihood and productivity of small-scale fishers.
The assistance, distributed under DA-BFAR's F/B Pagbabago Program, was formally turned over during a ceremony at the Provincial Fisheries Office (PFO) Building in San Jose. Beneficiaries from the municipalities of San Jose and Basilisa received the fishing vessels designed to provide safer, more durable, and efficient means of fishing.
Bernard Z. Baclayo, officer-in-charge of the DA-BFAR Provincial Fisheries Office of Dinagat Islands, said the agency remains committed to improving the welfare of fisherfolk through sustained fisheries interventions. He urged beneficiaries to properly maintain the boats and use them responsibly to increase fish production and improve their household income.
Representing the Local Government Unit of San Jose, Vice Mayor Rechard T. Pasquil expressed gratitude to DA-BFAR for its continued support to the municipality's fisheries sector. He also reminded recipients to protect the equipment and uphold responsible and sustainable fishing practices.
Municipal agriculturist Jo Ann Gonzales highlighted the strong collaboration between DA-BFAR and the local government in implementing fisheries development programs that directly benefit coastal communities and contribute to the growth of the local fisheries industry.
Meanwhile, Rore Ann B. Empil, Aquaculturist I of the Provincial Fisheries Office of Dinagat Islands, said the turnover reflects DA-BFAR's commitment to empowering municipal fisherfolk through sustainable livelihood support. She encouraged beneficiaries to maximize the assistance to improve their productivity while serving as advocates of responsible fisheries management in their communities.
The distribution of the six FRP boats with marine engines forms part of DA-BFAR Caraga's continuing initiatives to enhance the fishing capacity of municipal fisherfolk, expand economic opportunities in coastal communities, and support food security and sustainable fisheries development across the Province of Dinagat Islands.
