BA Political Science and BA Journalism students from JRMSU โ€“ Dipolog Campus, in partnership with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, planted 150 mangrove propagules in a creek at Surf, Miputak early today, April 10, 2026.

Mangroves help stabilize creek banks, reduce erosion, and improve water quality while providing habitat for aquatic species. Initiatives like this also highlight the importance of student participation in environmental protection.

Amid rising incidents of kaingin and the open burning of agricultural waste, we urge farmers to refrain from burning rice straw, farm residues, and other agricultural by-products. Personnel from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, the Environmental Sanitation Division (Ordinance 123 Enforcement), and the City Agriculture Office have conducted inspections of rice fields across the city to deter this practice and ensure compliance with City Ordinance No. 123 and Republic Act 9003.

Open burning of agricultural waste releases greenhouse gases that intensify climate change, emits harmful pollutants, and increases the risk of grassfires that can damage property and endanger lives. As an alternative, we encourage farmers to adopt sustainable practices such as composting and other methods of reusing farm residues.

Daghang salamat.

DIPOLOG CITY JOINS EARTH HOUR 2026

DIPOLOG CITY - Dipolog City joined millions around the globe in observing the Earth Hour Celebration yesterday, March 28, 2026, as key areas across the city dimmed their lights in a collective stand for environmental awareness.

City Hall, the Public Plaza, and several major streets participated in the symbolic activity by switching off non-essential lighting for one hour. The initiative aimed to highlight the importance of energy conservation and climate action.

The city is among those in the country that consistently support Earth Hour, an annual global movement led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Through its continued participation, Dipolog City reinforces its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, encouraging both public and private sectors to take part in protecting the planet. 3 days to go before Earth Hour.

In this time of environmental and political crisis, it is important to practice energy-saving habits such as switching off non-essential lights, unplugging unused appliances, and reducing electricity consumption in our homes and workplaces.

We can also cut down on fuel use by carpooling, using public transportation, biking to work, planning efficient routes, and avoiding unnecessary trips.

Let Earth Hour be more than just one hour. Caring for the planet begins with everyday choices to live more sustainably and responsibly.
