NORSU Main Campus Library Presents BREAD Extension Project to Barangay Junob Council 💙

Dumaguete City | February 9, 2026 — The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Campus Library team successfully presented its extension project, BREAD (Barangay Reader Enrichment and Access for Development), during the monthly session of the Barangay Junob Council earlier today.

The presentation was led by Dr. Jolo Van Clyde S. Abatayo, Assistant Professor II and Digital Services Librarian, together with Dr. Colette Abequibel, University Librarian and co-project leader, and project member Sir Peter Alos. The project aims to promote literacy, strengthen access to reading materials, and foster lifelong learning at the barangay level.

The team expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the entire Barangay Junob Council, most especially to Barangay Captain Hon. Isagani Bana, for warmly accommodating the presentation, attentively listening to the proposal, and extending genuine support to the initiative.

The BREAD Project is aligned with the thrusts and ministries of Negros Oriental State University, particularly in the areas of community extension, literacy development, and public service. Through this initiative, the NORSU Main Campus Library envisions the establishment of one Barangay Reading Center in every community in Dumaguete City, one at a time, as part of its continuing advocacy to empower lifelong learners and strengthen community engagement.

With the support of local government units and community partners, the NORSU Main Campus Library looks forward to the successful implementation of this meaningful endeavor in Barangay Junob and beyond.

The opening marks another significant step in the university’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning.

The newly established sections are designed to provide students with a modern, accessible, and comfortable space for reading, research, and academic collaboration. Strategically situated on the CAS ground floor, the facility allows easy access to essential library resources while offering an environment conducive to focused study and intellectual engagement.

This development responds to the growing demand for updated and specialized learning spaces aligned with contemporary academic needs.
