Schools across DepEd Negros Island Region (NIR) joined the National Simultaneous School Safety Drill today, September 3, 2026, as part of a nationwide exercise led by the Department of Education to strengthen school preparedness for emergencies.

The region's ceremonial observance was held at the Bago City Elementary School, with Assistant Regional Director Anthony Liobet, CESO V leading the participation of DepEd NIR, headed by Regional Director Ramir B. Uytico, CESO III.

Engr. Marlon Bungcasan, Regional DRRM Focal, coordinated preparations for the activity, working hand in hand with the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Bago City, headed by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Neri Anne M. Alibuyog, CESO V, along with Sir Malewaro Gamilla, Division DRRM focal, division education leaders, CDRRMO, partner agencies, and Bago City Elementary School faculty and staff.

The activity drew support from various government agencies, with representatives from the local government of Bago City, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and Philippine National Police (PNP) attending and providing technical assistance.

The drill is part of DepEd's broader school safety framework, which sets standardized procedures for emergency response, communication, coordination with local authorities, and post-drill support for learners and staff.

In his message, ARD Liobet emphasized that school safety is a "whole-of-community approach," stressing that this requires the involvement of government agencies, local officials, and other stakeholders.

He also thanked key government agencies and partners for sharing their expertise in support of the exercise.

The exercise followed a structured sequence โ€” from readiness assessment and learner preparation to the drill proper, post-drill reunification, and a review session โ€” allowing schools to evaluate their emergency response and identify areas for improvement.*

The softball team of Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy, Inc. (MOBCA) was crowned champion of the recently concluded 2026 West Zone Softball PONY World Series in the 14-and-under division, held in Hemet, California, capping a strong campaign for the young athletes.

The team paid a courtesy visit to Department of Education โ€“ Negros Island Region (DepEd NIR) Regional Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, CESO III and Assistant Regional Director Anthony H. Liobet, CESO V, last Thursday, Aug. 27, where the players presented their tournament banner in celebration of the title.

Rev. Dr. Exequiel F. Guanzon, MOBCA chairman, and school representative Vina M. Calsado accompanied the team during the visit.

RD Uytico and ARD Liobet congratulated the young athletes for the achievement, citing it as a source of pride for the region.

Also present was track and field athlete Aaron Pahilagao, who similarly turned in a string of podium finishes this year, including gold medals in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays at the Philippine National Open Championship, a silver finish in the 200-meter run at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa, and gold in the 400-meter run at the Kadayawan Festival Davao Athletics Open.*
