In celebration of the 124th Labor Day, the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and other government agencies, successfully conducted the Workers in the Informal Sector (WIS) activity on May 29, 2026, at the Girl Scouts of the Philippines Headquarters, Capitol Area, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
The activity gathered 110 participants from various associations across the province, providing an avenue for informal sector workers to gain valuable knowledge on government programs, social protection, livelihood opportunities, financial literacy, and skills development initiatives. The event aimed to strengthen support for individuals who earn a living outside formal employment and empower them through accessible government services and programs.
The welcome remarks were delivered by DOLE-Negros Oriental Field Office Chief, Ms. Joselita Remedios S. Bayalas, who emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among government agencies to better serve informal workers. Meanwhile, the rationale of the activity was presented by DOLE Livelihood Focal Person, Engr. Rubie B. Cempron, who highlighted the significance of empowering workers in the informal economy through government interventions and continuous support. The activity was also graced by the presence of Workers Welfare Unit Head, Ms. Sandra M. Delfin.
Resource speakers from several government agencies actively participated in the activity, including the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG Fund, PhilHealth, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Each agency presented programs and services designed to improve the welfare, productivity, and economic resilience of workers in the informal sector.
The successful conduct of the 124th Labor Day celebration for Workers in the Informal Sector reflects the government's continuing commitment to promoting inclusive growth, strengthening social protection, and improving the quality of life of Filipino workers in the informal economy.
