LOOK | DTI-Capiz, PIA-Capiz hold 2025 Consumer Voices: A Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) Kapihan Press Conference to kick off the nationwide CWM celebration
The 2025 Consumer Voices: A Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) Press Conference is in partnership with the Capiz Quadmedia led by the Philippine Information Agency-Capiz. It DTI's "opening ceremony" and a major platform to announce the year's theme, which is "Bida ang Konsyumer sa Bagong Pilipinas", the Agency's plans, and key initiatives to the media and the public - a strategic communication tool to generate awareness and mobilize action.
The 1st of October marks the beginning of the CWM celebration and DTI-Capiz led by its OIC-Provincial Director Merian A. Asas and its Consumer Protection Unit Head and Public Information Officer Marjorie F. Tendras, serve as the resource persons during the press conference.
Director Asas underscores the paramount importance of exercising the eight (8) consumer rights and the five (5) responsibilities fundamental to ensuring fair trade, ethical business practices, and a balanced marketplace. She also highlighted the enormous contribution of the media in the Agency's quest to educate consumers, and expresses deep gratitude in amplifying the Agency's reach, thus empowering more citizens.
Moreover, Ms. Tendras shared Director Asas' persistence in lobbying for the reorganization of the Local Price Coordinating Councils in Capiz to further protect consumers from trade malpractices. She also emphasized that DTI watches over establishments through the Agency's regular monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) under its jurisdiction, while strengthening its consumer education initiatives.
Questions on overpricing, price tag, online scams, consumer complaints handling, monitoring and enforcement and the agency's future plans and long-term goals are raised and addressed by Director Asas and Ms. Tendras.
In line with the celebration of Consumer Welfare Month, the DTI's entire campaign is designed to move every Capiznon closer to becoming a vigilant, responsible, and empowered consumer. It is about transforming the consumer from a passive victim of the market into an active, informed, and powerful participant.
