As part of commitment and return of service to the university, leaders and partners from the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) served as resource speaker during the inspiring session titled โLEAD SMART, ACT RIGHT: The Power of Good Governanceโ held during the 16th ICT Roadshow of the College of Computing Studies, Information and Communication Technology (CCSICT) of Isabela State University โ Echague.
The activity was conducted under the theme โGreen Intelligence: AI Transforming Agro-Industry and Eco-Tourism,โ which highlighted the growing role of technology, innovation, and responsible leadership in building sustainable and people-centered communities.
One of the featured speakers was Hon. Guill Marc D. Mariano Municipal councilor and NMYL officer, who shared valuable insights on character, systems, governance, and responsible citizenship. Throughout the session, he emphasized that good governance begins with integrity, accountability, empathy, and service-oriented leadership.
The discussion highlighted that leadership is not only about having authority, but also about building systems that promote transparency, participation, and accountability. The speaker stressed that access to information, citizen involvement, and ethical leadership are essential in creating trustworthy and responsive institutions.
Participants were also reminded that technology plays a major role in governance. Through digital systems and e-governance initiatives, access to public services and information becomes faster, more transparent, and more accessible to communities. The discussion connected strongly with students and professionals in the fields of Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Data Science, encouraging them to use their technical skills not only for innovation, but also for nation-building and public service.
The session also featured discussions on good citizenship, emphasizing that governance is a shared responsibility between leaders and citizens. Participants were encouraged to become informed, active, and responsible members of society who demand transparency and contribute to community development.
Through real-life examples and community initiatives such as the Puso at Talino Academy and youth leadership programs, the speaker demonstrated how leadership and civic engagement can empower communities and inspire future leaders.
The organizers, through the We CommuNect Project, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the NMYL leaders and legislators for generously dedicating their time, knowledge, and real-world experiences to the academic community. Their presence and willingness to mentor future professionals demonstrated the importance of collaboration between government leaders and educational institutions in shaping socially responsible innovators.
Above all, the session delivered a strong reminder that beyond systems, innovation, digital transformation, and technical excellence, the highest responsibility of every individual is to become an ethical, responsible, and active citizen. While technology continues to advance, true progress can only happen when leadership, integrity, and public service guide its purpose.
The activity served as a strong example of how partnerships between academic institutions and government organizations can create meaningful opportunities for learning, civic engagement, and responsible innovation.
