Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas! โจ
To commemorate Womenโs Month, we honor the remarkable female leaders behind the success of CAMP today.
[1] Dean Esmerita Roceles Rotor, current Dean of the UP CAMP, contributed significantly to allied health education through teaching, research, and academic leadership. She led major academic initiatives, including the development of the Master of Physical Therapy program and the revision of the Master of Rehabilitation Science curriculum.
She has advanced curriculum modernization and innovation, ensuring programs are responsive to both national health needs and global standards. She emphasizes technology integration and service-oriented learning, strengthening the connection between academic training and community health services. Her leadership promotes faculty development, research productivity, and mentorship, fostering a strong academic culture within CAMP.
Through these efforts, she contributes to the development of competent, socially responsive allied health professionals and strengthens CAMPโs role in improving healthcare delivery in the Philippines.
[2] Dean Maria Eliza R. Aguila significantly strengthened CAMP and contributed to the country through her steady and adaptive leadership as Dean (2018โ2024), particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She ensured academic continuity by spearheading the implementation of the Canvas Learning Management System and advancing innovative, transformative teaching approaches in allied health education.
She promoted research productivity, strengthened clinical partnerships such as with Cardinal Santos Medical Center, and led initiatives like the development of a Doctor of Optometry program to address national health needs. Through her support for faculty and students and her focus on institutional resilience, she positioned CAMP as a responsive and forward-looking leader in allied health education in the Philippines.
[3] Dean Jocelyn Christina B. Marzan significantly advanced the College of Allied Medical Professions (CAMP) and the speech-language pathology (SLP) profession in the Philippines through her leadership as Dean (2015โ2018), academic expertise, and national advocacy. At CAMP, she strengthened SLP education, promoted evidence-based curriculum development, and sustained the collegeโs standards of excellence in allied health training.
Nationally, she led the development of CHEDโs Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for SLP education and contributed to the passage of the Speech-Language Pathology Act (RA 11249), helping professionalize and regulate the field. Through her research, mentorship, and leadership in professional organizations, she elevated the quality, recognition, and impact of speech-language pathology and allied health services in the country.
