STRENGTHENING CYBER DEFENSE, INSPIRING READINESS
BGEN JOEY T FONTIVEROS PA Visits 5th Signal Battalion

On 14 August 2026, the 5th Signal Battalion, Signal Regiment, Philippine Army warmly welcomed BGEN JOEY T FONTIVEROS PA, Commander, Cyber Command, AFP, during his visit to the Battalion.

The visit commenced with the turnover of the Firewall, and further discuss future collaboration in strengthening the Battalion’s cybersecurity capabilities and enhancing the protection of its critical communications and network infrastructure to support the JTF TALA mission in the Northern Frontier of country.

This was followed by a Talk to Troops, where BGEN FONTIVEROS shared his guidance and insights with the personnel, emphasizing professionalism, discipline, operational readiness, continuous capability development, and being a God centered delivery of services to the nation.

To conclude the visit, BGEN FONTIVEROS personally planted a seedling within the Battalion’s Headquarters, symbolizing growth, responsibility, and commitment to a sustainable future.

The visit underscored the importance of leadership, capability development, and secure communications in addressing the evolving challenges of the digital battlespace.

The 5th Signal Battalion remains steadfast in its commitment to provide secure, reliable, and resilient communications in support of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army’s mission and to the AFP.

🇵🇭 PHILIPPINE ARMY COMMEMORATES 77th INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW MONTH 2026

The Philippine Army joins the nation in commemorating 77th International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month 2026, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to human dignity, the protection of civilians, and the Rule of Law in the fulfillment of its constitutional mandate.

With this year’s theme, “Pinalakas na Ugnayan at Pagkakaisa sa Pagsulong ng IHL,” the Army recognizes that promoting and protecting humanitarian principles is a shared responsibility that calls for stronger cooperation and unity among government institutions, security forces, humanitarian organizations, and other stakeholders.

As the Philippine Army continues to strengthen its capabilities and adapt to the evolving security environment, IHL, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law remain deeply embedded in its doctrine, training, leadership development, planning, and operations—ensuring that every mission is carried out with professionalism, discipline, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

The 5th Signal Battalion, Signal Regiment, Philippine Army continues to strengthen the bonds of unity, discipline, camaraderie, and sportsmanship through its Sportsfest 2026, bringing together the Black Team, Orange Team, Green Team, and Blue Team in a series of friendly yet meaningful competitions.

The Opening Ceremony graced by our Guest of Honor and Speaker, LTC MAGDALENA H. CUSTODIO GSC (AGS) PA, Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, G1, 5th Infantry (STAR) Division, Philippine Army. In her inspiring message, she emphasized the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and excellence as vital qualities in military service and mission accomplishment.

The Sportsfest features competitions in Basketball, Pickleball, Chess, Mobile Legends, Truck Pushing, and the Obstacle Course Relay, providing opportunities for personnel to build stronger relationships, enhance teamwork, and promote overall physical and mental well-being.

Beyond the games, the Sportsfest serves as a testament to the Battalion's commitment to fostering esprit de corps and reinforcing the unity that enables the 5th Signal Battalion to remain a stronger, more cohesive, and mission-ready organization.

The ceremony featured the grand parade of the four competing teams—Black Team, Orange Team, Green Team, and Blue Team—each proudly marching with their respective muses. Their vibrant presentations reflected the creativity, enthusiasm, and strong esprit de corps that define the men and women of the Battalion.

As the Sportsfest officially opens, may this event further strengthen teamwork, discipline, and the enduring bond among all personnel, both on and off the playing field.

It protects coastal communities, livelihoods, and one of the world’s richest marine environments, reminding us that sovereignty is also about food security and future opportunities for every Filipino family. Ten years on, its message is clear: principles matter, lawful action matters, and a rules‑based order benefits all nations.

Her retirement marks the culmination of a remarkable career defined by unwavering dedication, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to the organization, particularly to the 5th Signal Battalion, Signal Regiment, Philippine Army.

Throughout the years, Ms. Balmes has exemplified excellence in public service, leaving a lasting impact through her hard work, integrity, and invaluable contributions. Her commitment has not only strengthened the organization but has also inspired those who had the privilege of working alongside her.

As she embarks on a new chapter of life, the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources of the 5th Signal Battalion extend their heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation for her years of loyal and selfless service.
