LEGEND OF TIGUION
A certain man stating his hunger for adventure plunged into a deeply forested area to hunt wild animals. Having been exhausted after some hours, he went to the nearby river to rest under the cool shades of giant trees. Suddenly his attention was caught by the ripples formed by a silent splash. Through the fresh clear water he saw moving objects that prompted him to grope for ston

es. Instinctively, he cast the stones with hard drive aiming at the moving thing.
“What’s that?” queried somebody who appeared a stranger to him.
“That’s tigi” he answered. HISTORY OF TIGUION
Located 1.5 kilometers east of the town of Gasan is Barangay Tiguion, to date the biggest in area (1,451 sq. and the most populous rural in the Municipality of Gasan, (3,018 heads), composed of 9 sitios, some of which are nestled in rugged terrains and wide mountain ranges (Sitios of Manlunay, Canaon, Buyabod, and Talao). This bordered on the south by Barangay Tabionan and Matandang Gasan, on the north by Tapuyan, Cabugao and Duyay (barangay from Municipality of Boac), on the west by Dili, Pangi, Bangbang and the Poblacion and on the east by the boundaries of the far-flung barangay of the Municipality of Boac. Richly enclosed by natures beauty, this is so rustically enchanting, has its stretch of forest, two long and murmuring rivers that flows through huge rocks, four captivating caves situated at the foot of a bell-shaped mountain, evergreen and lush vegetation that create verdant shadows and shades all attractive spots appearing to a tourist fancy and delight. Having a much tugged topography only the sitios of Wayangan, Central I, II, III, Pacoy and Bucal are constructed at the narrow plain. That accounts for the fact why a very insignificant amount of rice is harvested from the low lands. Tradition claims that prior to the coming of the conquering Spaniards, no one ever inhabited a place called Tiguion, abode of huge, fierce-looking birds and ferocious animals, and where the lights of the limpid aurora hardly penetrated through. After so many years, however, some intrepid people from the Poblacion traversed into the wilderness and gradually cleared some plain spots. Thus were the predators finding their rice respite in the thick weeds, annoyed and driven out of their heaven. Thus coming of the Spaniards found some frontier families blazing a trail tot his area epitomizing a new community, a new life. Thus in 1847 Tiguion was formally made a barrio. Crop production, despite the crude implements, started to improve and people began to live on the threshold of civilization, for through no formal education was ever instituted the inhabitants strived to be literate through the “Katon” method. A barangay was orienting the people into intricacies of a body politics. The moral and religious sides were of deep concern to them for they have been imbued with the doctrines of Catholicism. The population has already increased a bit when the Americans came. But except for the system of education. Americans influence left no tremendous impact on the economic uplift of the people although there were mark improvements on the shelters. Some huts and shanties metaphase into more pleasant homes, made of strong and durable materials. Yet only a perilous trail, caused by the carabao carts, connected the locality with that of the Poblacion. It was in 193 that a primary school was opened in Tiguion with Mr. Jose Guevara as the first teacher. The coming of the Japanese and the time of World War II sent an exodus of terrified citizens into the vicinity of Tiguion. Living in frenzy survival almost was incredible for thousands of people converged in place where food production, albeit not stopped, became intermittent. Thanks to the bounty of nature, other food supplement could be had but only for those who are willing to live by the sweat of their brow. Liberation time opened a brighter horizon for this place in 1948, Mr. Celso Guevara Sr., a two timer Barrio Captain, donated an area of 5,040 sq. for the opening of an elementary school with Mr. Jose Guevara as the first school head. Now, through the effort of the former principal (Mrs. Celia Asuncion) the school area has increased to 10, 787 sq. Soon people grew by the number and out of the finer ones emerged politicians, professionals, students, businessmen, sailors, etc. The former Mayor of Gasan, Maximo Salazar, a one time barrio captain came from this place Tiguion. On the whole living in this place becomes pleasant for every family engaged in one industry or another, out rightly dominated by farming into weaving and copra making. Every family sends their children to the elementary school, some to high school and to college. And for the people of Tiguion nothing could be more rewarding than the news of our country’s pole-vaulting in NIChood (Newly-Industrialized Country) quaint countryside becomes peaceful, simple, yet productive. Now electricity had been generated to this place, new industries will flourished in Tiguion, though nestled in the midst of rustic scenes, will begin to feel and encounter the air of an urban ambience.
