In the heart of General Luna, Siargaoโwhere turquoise waves meet authentic island warmthโone manโs determination has weathered both natureโs fiercest storms and lifeโs greatest challenges. Edgardo T. Sulapas Jr., founder of Dee Siargaonon Travel & Tours, began his entrepreneurial journey in November 2017 with a clear vision: to share Siargaoโs natural splendor while championing the resilience of its people. What started as a modest travel and tour venture steadily flourished, driven by Edgardoโs steadfast commitment to service excellence and his passion for delivering genuine, community-rooted experiences.
But just as things were gaining momentum, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a halt. Siargao, like many tourist destinations, went into lockdown. The vibrant island fell silentโno tourists, no bookings, no business. And yet, against all odds, Edgardo's business survived. One day, during those uncertain months, he checked his bank account and was shocked to see that he still had significant savingsโtestament to his discipline and foresight. Rather than keep the blessing to himself, Edgardo chose to give back, distributing relief goods to the community, sharing what he could with those in need.
When tourism slowly returned in October, Siargao once again buzzed with life. Dee Siargaonon Travel & Tours welcomed back visitors, and Edgardo continued to save and reinvest. But just as the island was beginning to heal, Super Typhoon Odette struck in December 2021โleaving 90% of Siargao devastated. The destruction was massive, and once again, tourists disappeared. But Edgardo, ever resilient, didnโt give up. With the money he had saved, he initiated another wave of relief effortsโthis time including feeding programs and targeted support to affected barangays across the island. His efforts helped many families get back on their feet during one of the islandโs darkest moments.
Six to seven months after the typhoon, Siargao began to rise againโand so did Edgardo. He not only restarted his travel and tours business, but expanded his vision. He launched Dee Siargaonon Homestay, providing cozy accommodations for travelers seeking authentic Siargao living. Soon after, he opened the Dee Siargaonon Souvenir Shop, giving guests a chance to take a piece of the island home with them. Through every setback, Edgardo T. Sulapas Jr. has shown that success is not just about profitsโit's about purpose, persistence, and people.
Today, Dee Siargaonon isnโt just a businessโitโs a symbol of hope, community, and the unstoppable spirit of Siargao.
