The Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) โ€“ Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS) convened its 3rd Executive Committee (Execom) Meeting on September 3, 2026, at Dโ€™ Islander Ville Pension Hauz, Barangay 13, Poblacion, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

The session was presided over by Sangguniang Bayan Member Hon. John Christopher C. Silvosa, representing our Municipal Mayor Hon. Johnson Y. Sajulga.

The meeting focused on key matters concerning the protection, conservation, sustainable management, and development of SIPLAS, including reports and updates from various committees covering site development and resource management, biodiversity conservation and monitoring, law enforcement, community management, ecotourism, monitoring and evaluation, and other matters.

Through continued collaboration and coordinated action, PAMBโ€“SIPLAS remains committed to protecting Siargaoโ€™s rich natural resources while promoting sustainable development for present and future generations.

The iconic waves of Cloud 9 in General Luna will once again take center stage as the 2nd Mayor Jaime Plaza Rusillon Cloud 9 Memorial Surfing Cup brings high-level surfing competition to Siargao on October 11โ€“12, 2026.

The Cloud 9 Memorial Surfing Cup forms part of the Governorโ€™s National Surfing Cup 2026, a three-leg surfing circuit that will showcase the skills of Filipino surfers across three of Siargaoโ€™s renowned surf breaksโ€”Pacifico, Cloud 9, and Tangbo.

For General Luna, the Cloud 9 leg carries special significance as it honors the enduring legacy of the late Mayor Jaime Plaza Rusillon, fondly remembered as the Father of Philippine Surfing. His pioneering contribution to the development and promotion of surfing helped shape Siargaoโ€™s identity as a world-renowned surfing destination and strengthened the sportโ€™s place in the country.

Beyond celebrating the sport, the competition will provide Filipino surfers with an important platform to test their skills against some of the countryโ€™s best competitors. Adding to the significance of the event, winners of the Mayor Jaime Plaza Rusillon Cloud 9 Memorial Surfing Cup will be awarded wildcard spots to the prestigious World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour.

The Governorโ€™s National Surfing Cup 2026 is organized by the SISA โ€“ Siargao Island Surfers Association, in partnership with the Province of Surigao del Norte, and is sanctioned by the United Philippine Surfing Association (UPSA).

The Local Government Unit of General Luna convened the 3rd Quarter Municipal Development Council (MDC) Meeting on August 28, 2026, at the Cabuntog Hall and Museum Center, bringing together key municipal offices, national government agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen coordination and advance the municipalityโ€™s development agenda.

The meeting was presided over by our Municipal Mayor and MDC Chairperson Hon. Johnson Y. Sajulga, with Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator-Designate Engr. Catherine E. Ravelo and Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Mr. Jacky A. Mellorin also in attendance.

Among the major agenda items discussed was the proposed Annual Investment Program (AIP) for Calendar Year 2027, which outlines priority programs, projects, and activities geared toward addressing the needs and development priorities of the municipality.

Through strengthened partnerships and coordinated planning, the LGU remains steadfast in building a more progressive, resilient, and inclusive General Luna.
