There are no natural disasters. 🚫

Hazards are natural – but the losses that follow result from human decisions – decisions made long before any event occurs.
πŸ™οΈ The decision to allow unplanned urban growth compounds exposure.
πŸ—οΈ The decision to let infrastructure decay increases the risk of collapse.
πŸ“’The decision not to invest in early warning systems leaves communities without time to act.
🌾 The decision to support unsustainable agricultural practices threatens food security.

Risk-informed decisions translate directly into resilient societies and reduced disaster losses.

3rd Quarter CY 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED)
On September 10, 2026, the Municipality of General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Cavite participated in the 3rd Quarter CY 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) pursuant to NDRRMC Memorandum Circular No. 15, dated January 21, 2026, which calls for the conduct of the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill as part of the country's continuing efforts to strengthen earthquake preparedness, response capabilities, and public awareness.
The activity was conducted under the supervision of Engr. Teofilo G. Rea II, LDRRM Officer, with the active participation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) headed by its Chairperson, Hon. Medardo β€œEd” Custodio, Municipal Mayor. The drill was also participated in by personnel from various offices of the Municipal Government of General Mariano Alvarez, the Sangguniang Bayan Office, the General Mariano Alvarez Municipal Police Station (PNP), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The conduct of the drill commenced with the activation of the earthquake scenario and the dissemination of the earthquake alert. Upon hearing the designated warning signal, participating personnel immediately performed the recommended β€œDuck, Cover, and Hold” procedure to simulate appropriate protective action during an earthquake. After the simulated shaking, participants proceeded to the designated evacuation areas in an orderly manner while observing established safety and emergency procedures.
The MDRRMO, in coordination with concerned offices and response agencies, monitored the conduct of the drill and facilitated the implementation of emergency response procedures. The participation of the PNP and BFP demonstrated the importance of inter-agency coordination in maintaining public safety, crowd management, emergency response, and other support functions during earthquake incidents.
The activity also provided an opportunity to assess the level of preparedness and awareness of participating personnel, particularly their familiarity with emergency procedures, evacuation protocols, communication mechanisms, and coordination among the different offices and response agencies. It reinforced the importance of maintaining an organized and coordinated response before, during, and after an earthquake.
Overall, the 3rd Quarter CY 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill was successfully conducted in the Municipality of General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite. The activity strengthened the commitment of the Municipal Government, through the MDRRMC and MDRRMO, together with various municipal offices, the Sangguniang Bayan, PNP, and BFP, toward building a prepared, responsive, and disaster-resilient community.
The conduct of the NSED likewise emphasized that preparedness is a shared responsibility. Continuous participation in earthquake drills, regular updating of emergency procedures, strengthening of inter-agency coordination, and sustained public awareness are essential in reducing disaster risks and minimizing the potential impacts of earthquake hazards on the community.
