The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Sarangani Provincial Statistical Office conducted a Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Data Dissemination at Malapatan College of Science and Technology (MalaSCI), Barangay Lun Padidu, Malapatan, Sarangani Province on 27 August 2026. The activity highlighted the importance and practical uses of CBMS data in the academe.
The half-day activity aimed to introduce CBMS to faculty members, students, and researchers and strengthen research through the use of newly collected and processed data by the PSA. It also highlighted how CBMS data can support evidence-based planning, policy formulation, program implementation, and decision-making at the local level. The activity formally opened with the welcome remarks of Dr. Jimboy Pestaño, Academic Affairs Director and Research Director of Malapatan College of Science and Technology, who welcomed the PSA Sarangani team and participants to the activity.
The resource speakers were Senior Statistical Specialist Carla Mary Lou D. Fusilero and Statistical Specialist II* Mark Jiel D. Aninag of the PSA Sarangani Provincial Statistical Office. They discussed CBMS and its role in providing relevant information that can be used to better understand the conditions and needs of communities. A total of 58 BS Management Accounting students, along with faculty members and researchers, participated in the half-day activity.
The CBMS Data Dissemination at MalaSCI was conducted as part of PSA Sarangani’s continuing efforts to promote data utilization and research, particularly among academic institutions. Through partnerships with institutions like MalaSCI, the PSA continues to promote the responsible and effective use of statistical information, supporting meaningful research, informed decision-making, and better development planning for local communities.
