On August 24, 2026, at about 9:45 AM, at General Santos City, South Cotabato, operatives of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) โ Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 12 (RACU 12), in coordination with the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO), conducted a rescue operation of a 17-year-old female, alias โLaleng,โ for her involvement in an online grave threat.
The rescue operation stemmed from a social media post containing threatening statements targeting several high schools in General Santos City. The post caused fear and alarm among residents and raised concerns over a possible threat against the school community. Upon receiving the information, RACU 12 conducted cyberpatrolling, which led to the tracking of the identity and location of the rescued minor who owns the account.
The rescued minor was referred to the Crisis Center for Children for temporary custody and further intervention, with psychological evaluation recommended to address her welfare and psychosocial needs.
This operation supports the directive of Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., Chief of the PNP, to strengthen cybercrime investigation and ensure the protection of vulnerable sectors, particularly children in the online environment.
Police Major General Wilson C. Asueta, Director of the PNP ACG, commended the personnel involved in the successful rescue operation and emphasized the importance of responsible and coordinated action in addressing online threats. โOnline threat is not a joke, we will act on it. We urge the public to remain vigilant and immediately report threatening online content so that appropriate action can be taken,โ he stated.
