𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗣 𝗠𝗜𝗗-𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) successfully conducted its Mid-Year Review and Workshop in Ortigas Center, Pasig City dated on June 16-19, 2026, bringing together representatives from different Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs) to strengthen fisheries assessment and management efforts. One of the major highlights of the activity was the identification and prioritization of key species per FMA, ensuring that stock assessment initiatives remain responsive to the specific needs and conditions of each management area.

The workshop also served as a platform for presenting and discussing the latest stock status information across the various FMAs. Through collaborative discussions and data-sharing, participants enhanced their understanding of current fisheries conditions and reinforced their commitment to promoting science-based and sustainable fisheries management for the country's aquatic resources.

𝐍𝐒𝐀𝐏-𝐗𝐈𝐈 𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

The National Stock Assessment Program-XII (NSAP-XII) conducted monitoring and validation activities on species composition and volume across designated NSAP landing sites on May 18–22 to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of fisheries data collection. The activity serves as an important effort in strengthening fisheries monitoring systems and supporting sustainable management.

Through the collaborative efforts of the NSAP-XII team, the activity reinforced the importance of maintaining quality and dependable fisheries data for informed decision-making and policy development. Led by their Project Leader, Ms. Maria Angelica F. Cecilio, the team remains committed to improving data collection initiatives that contribute to the long-term sustainability of the fisheries sector.

𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗣-𝗫𝗜𝗜 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗕𝗦𝗣𝗥 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚

The NSAP-12 Data Analysts recently completed a specialized training session in Quezon City from March 23–26, 2026, focused on the Length-Based Spawning Potential Ratio (LBSPR). Led by Dr. Jeremy Prince, an Adjunct Professor of Fisheries at Murdoch University, the workshop provided the team with practical methods to assess the health of fish stocks using length measurements. This scientific approach allows for effective fisheries management.

By mastering these LBSPR techniques, the NSAP-12 team is now better equipped to provide science-based recommendations for sustainable fishing. Dr. Prince’s expertise helped the participants understand how to translate field data into a clear roadmap for protecting fish populations. This training marks a significant step forward in ensuring that local fisheries remain productive and stable, securing both the environment and the livelihoods of those who depend on it for years to come.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗬 🇵🇭🌊

On this day, fisheries experts, technical experts, and key stakeholders convened for the "FMA 3 Harvest Strategy Refinement and Policy Formulation Workshop" at Anchor Hotel, General Santos City wherein it aims to strengthen science-based and responsive fisheries management in our FMA. The workshop focused on reviewing and enhancing harvest strategies to ensure that management measures remain aligned with updated stock assessments and current fishing conditions.

The activity was represented by participants from Regions 9 and 12, and BARMM, whose field experiences and regional perspectives ensured that the discussions reflected real on-the-ground challenges and opportunities. With the invaluable guidance and technical support of the Technical Working Group (TWG) and Scientific Advisory Group (SAG), especially Ms. Jimely Flores and Dr. Jose Ingles, complex topics such as harvest control rules, biological reference points, and management decision triggers were presented in a simplified and easy-to-understand manner.

The outcomes of this workshop will directly support improved policy formulation, clearer implementation guidelines, and stronger coordination across regions under FMA 3. By combining scientific advice, technical expertise, and regional insights, we continue to advance a transparent, inclusive, and adaptive management approach.

The 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 (NSAP 12) conducted a monitoring activity for their newly added landing centers at the Market 4, General Santos Fish Port Complex on February 23, 2026, by their data analyst, Emelyn A. Donia, and Al-Azeez T. Pautong. This initiative forms part of our ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

NSAP XII participated in the Workshop on Data Consolidation, Processing, and Analysis for Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 3, held on November 19–21, 2025, at Anchor Hotel, General Santos City. The activity brought together technical personnel from NSAP 9, NSAP 12, and BARMM to harmonize datasets, strengthen analytical capabilities, and ensure consistency in data processing and validation across regions.

This workshop served as a key initiative in improving the accuracy, integration, and interpretation of fisheries data for FMA 3. Through collaborative efforts and shared technical expertise, participants enhanced data workflows, aligned analytical approaches, and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting science-based and sustainable fisheries management in the area.
