PUBLIC ADVISORY

The Local Government Unit of General Santos City is closely monitoring reports on the possibility of transboundary haze reaching portions of Mindanao.

At present, no Haze Alert Level has been declared for General Santos City. As a precaution, the public is advised to stay informed through official sources and observe appropriate health and safety measures should haze be observed.

The LGU General Santos City, in coordination with concerned agencies, will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

The public is encouraged to remain calm and rely only on verified information and official advisories.

Paddles up, game on—the Sangguniang Panlungsod served up a different kind of action as 22 teams battled for court supremacy in its first Mini Pickleball Tournament on August 28 at Lagare Farms and Parks, Apopong, General Santos City.

Held in partnership with the Philippine Councilors League – General Santos City, the tournament saw teams go head-to-head in two categories, Novice and Rookie, with Pickleblinders and CherryxJosh eventually rising above the competition to claim their respective championship titles.

Champion – Pickleblinders | Hon. Elizabeth Bagonoc and Mark Jess Bagonoc
1st Runner-Up – TrinaxJosh | Katrina Ella Bagonoc and Joshua Adrian Vicencio
2nd Runner-Up – Bing D**k | Davemarlo Melliza and Russel Torres

🏆 ROOKIE CATEGORY
Champion – CherryxJosh | Cherry Lyn Hinlo and Joshua Bragas
1st Runner-Up – PicklePub | Cindy Dalid and Daniel John Ines
2nd Runner-Up – Archives | Ryan Velayo and Michael Saulon

City Councilors Dominador Lagare III, Elizabeth Bagonoc, Richard Atendido, Alberto Pacquiao, and Elijah Joanne Polistico-Pacquiao also joined the action, sharing the court with SP employees in a tournament that mixed friendly competition with plenty of fun and camaraderie.

For the SP’s first outing on the pickleball court, the players came ready to rally, and made every point count.

September 5, 2026 is oFISHally declared a Special (Non-Working) Day in General Santos City in celebration of the Tuna Festival, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1410 of the Office of the President.

This year’s celebration carries a deeper meaning. Despite what happened on June 8, and while our city continues its recovery and rehabilitation, we come together once again to celebrate the industry, culture, and people that have helped shape General Santos City.

May this Tuna Festival remind us that even in difficult times, there is still room to gather, give thanks, support one another, and celebrate the city we call home.
