SDO General Trias City Holds National School Safety Drill at Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. SHS with Trauma-Informed Protocols

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — Students, teachers, and personnel of Luis Y. Ferrer Junior-Senior High School actively participated in the National Simultaneous School Safety Drill (NSSD) for Active Attack Incidents on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Serving as the ceremonial venue for the division-wide exercise, the school spearheaded emergency response protocols designed to prepare educational communities for active attack situations through non-threat and non-violent simulations.

Pursuant to Division Memorandum No. 427, s. 2026, issued on August 31, 2026, by the Schools Division Office (SDO) of General Trias City under DepEd Memorandum OM OUGOPS 2026, the drill commenced at 9:00 AM. The event brought together public and private school heads, School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) coordinators, and partner-stakeholders across SDO General Trias to observe and assess standardized emergency response mechanisms.

Prioritizing Safety and 'Do No Harm' Directives

Unlike conventional high-stress emergency drills, this nationwide exercise prioritized psychological well-being alongside operational readiness. Department of Education (DepEd) directives instructed all participating institutions to activate their School Contingency Plans for Incidents Involving Active Shooters while strictly enforcing trauma-informed and child-centered protocols.

Key safeguarding measures implemented during the initiative included:

Readiness and Pre-Drill Orientation: Schools conducted comprehensive readiness assessments, orientations, and coordination with local law enforcement and emergency response authorities prior to the exercise.

Parental Consent and Psychosocial Support: Institutions secured explicit parental consent before student participation and established dedicated psychosocial support mechanisms to support learner well-being.

Trauma-Informed Ex*****on: All preparatory and operational phases strictly adhered to the "Do No Harm" directive, ensuring exercises were age-appropriate, non-threatening, and respectful of student dignity.

By embedding psychosocial safeguards directly into emergency preparedness protocols, SDO General Trias City demonstrated a modern approach to campus safety—ensuring that critical emergency training builds resilience without compromising the mental health of learners and school staff.
