𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 : Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani, together with Coast Guard Sub-station Glan, conducted a Feeding Program for families affected by the recent earthquakes and flooding in Brgy. Mudan, Glan, Sarangani Province.

A total of one hundred twenty (120) individuals received packed lunches as part of the humanitarian activity. Through the Philippine Coast Guard’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) efforts and the Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response and Enforcement (iCARE) Program, the Coast Guard continues to provide timely assistance to disaster-affected communities, helping address their immediate needs while offering hope, comfort, and encouragement during their recovery.

More than providing meals, the activity served as a reminder that no community faces adversity alone. It demonstrated the value of compassion, unity, and volunteerism in uplifting the lives of those affected by calamities. By reaching out to vulnerable families, the Philippine Coast Guard reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding not only the nation’s maritime domain but also the welfare and resilience of the Filipino people in times of crisis.

𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗨𝗣 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘

𝙄𝘾𝙔𝙈: On July 17, 2026, Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani (CGSES), together with Coast Guard Sub-Station Glan (CGSS Glan), Coast Guard Sub-Station Alegado, and the Marine Environmental Protection Emergency Response Group–Southern Mindanao (MEPERG-SM), actively participated in a Clean-Up Drive spearheaded by the Municipal Police Station–Glan in connection with the 1st PCR Family Conference of the Philippine National Police.

The environmental activity was conducted at Purok Riverside, Barangay Poblacion, Glan, Sarangani Province, highlighting the importance of inter-agency cooperation and community participation in promoting environmental stewardship and maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.

Through the collective efforts of the participating agencies and volunteers, a total of ten (10) sacks of assorted garbage were collected and properly gathered from the area.

The activity underscores the shared commitment of government agencies and stakeholders to protect the environment, promote public awareness, and foster stronger partnerships toward a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable community.

Based on the local tsunami scenario database, affected coastal areas are expected to experience tsunami wave heights of more than one meter above normal tide levels, particularly in enclosed bays and straits.

The first tsunami waves are forecast to arrive between 7:37 AM on June 8, 2026, and 9:37 AM on June 8, 2026. Residents are reminded that tsunami waves may continue for several hours, and the first wave is not always the largest.

Residents in the coastal areas of the following provinces are strongly advised to immediately evacuate to higher ground or move farther inland:

Sarangani
Davao Occidental
Tawi-Tawi
Sulu
Basilan
Zamboanga del Sur
Zamboanga Sibugay
Sultan Kudarat
South Cotabato

Boat owners in harbors, estuaries, and shallow coastal waters within the affected provinces should secure their vessels and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period are advised to remain offshore in deep waters until authorities declare it safe to return.

The safety of all residents remains the highest priority. Immediate compliance with evacuation instructions can save lives.

𝙊𝙄𝙇 𝙎𝙋𝙄𝙇𝙇 𝘼𝙒𝘼𝙍𝙀𝙉𝙀𝙎𝙎 𝘼𝙉𝘿 𝙀𝙈𝙀𝙍𝙂𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙔 𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙋𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙀 𝙏𝙍𝘼𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙉𝙂

LOOK: Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani, in coordination with the Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) – Eastern Sarangani and Marine Environmental Protection Group (MEPG) – Southern Mindanao, successfully conducted a two-day Oil Spill Awareness and Emergency Response Training (OSAERT) under the Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) Program.

The training was attended by a total of twenty-nine (29) participants, composed of seventeen (17) Philippine Coast Guard personnel and twelve (12) representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malapatan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO)-Malapatan, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO)-Malapatan, Bantay Dagat volunteers, and local fisherfolk.

The activity aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of participants in responding to oil spill incidents and mitigating their impact on the marine environment. Throughout the training, participants were provided with comprehensive discussions on the proper handling, storage, disposal, and management of oil and petroleum products. They were also oriented on oil spill prevention measures, environmental protection protocols, and appropriate response procedures during spill incidents.

Practical demonstrations were conducted on the use of oil spill response equipment, including oil dispersants, absorbent pads, and oil spill containment booms, which are essential in containing, controlling, and preventing the spread of oil in coastal and marine waters. Participants likewise took part in tabletop exercises that simulated real-life oil spill scenarios, followed by hands-on simulation exercises designed to test their decision-making, coordination, and operational response capabilities.

The successful conduct of the training underscores the Philippine Coast Guard’s commitment to strengthening environmental protection efforts, promoting community awareness, and enhancing the readiness of stakeholders in safeguarding the marine environment against the adverse effects of oil pollution.

𝙎𝙐𝘾𝘾𝙀𝙎𝙁𝙐𝙇𝙇 𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙍𝘾𝙃 𝘼𝙉𝘿 𝙍𝙀𝙎𝘾𝙐𝙀 𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙍𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙒𝙊 (2) 𝙁𝙄𝙎𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙈𝘼𝙉 𝙄𝙉 𝘿𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙎

LOOK: Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani, in coordination with MDRRMO-Glan, LGU-Glan, and the PNP Maritime Group, successfully rescued two (2) fishermen after their motorbanca submerged due to rough sea conditions and adverse weather.

At approximately 5:11 PM on May 28, 2026, Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani received a cellular phone call from the staff of Sumbang Point Belimac Beach reporting a distressed motorbanca requesting immediate assistance approximately one hundred fifty (150) meters off the shoreline of Sumbang Point, Barangay Taluya, Glan, Sarangani Province.

According to the victims, they were en route to Balut Island, Davao Occidental when their motorbanca encountered strong waves and unfavorable sea conditions, causing the vessel to partially submerge and leaving them stranded at sea.

Upon receipt of the report, personnel of Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani together with Coast Guard Sub-Station Glan immediately launched a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation aboard a rubber boat provided by the Local Government Unit of Glan under the leadership of Honorable Victor James B. Yap, Municipal Mayor. The operation was conducted in close coordination with MDRRMO-Glan to ensure the immediate safety and retrieval of the distressed fishermen.

At approximately 6:30 PM of the same date, the distressed motorbanca together with the two (2) fishermen were successfully rescued and safely transported to the Port of Glan. Thereafter, MDRRMO-Glan personnel immediately conducted medical evaluation and initial assessment on the rescued fishermen and confirmed that both were in good physical condition and sustained no serious injuries.

The successful rescue operation highlights the importance of rapid response, effective inter-agency coordination, and community cooperation in ensuring maritime safety and protecting lives at sea. Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani continuously reminds all fisherfolk and mariners to remain vigilant, monitor weather advisories, and observe proper safety precautions before venturing out to sea, especially during unfavorable weather conditions.

ICYMI: Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group – Southern Mindanao, successfully conducted a five (5)-day Basic Water Safety and Basic Swift Water Rescue (BSWSWR) Training.

The intensive training equipped participants with essential knowledge, practical skills, and proper techniques in water safety, rescue operations, and swift water response. It focused on enhancing their capability to effectively respond to water-related emergencies, particularly in areas prone to flooding and strong river currents.

A total of thirty-eight (38) participants successfully completed and graduated from the program, marking a significant step in strengthening the region’s pool of trained responders. This initiative not only improves operational readiness but also reinforces the commitment of the Philippine Coast Guard to safeguarding lives, property, and the environment through continuous capacity-building and inter-agency collaboration.

LOOK: On May 18, 2026, Coast Guard Station Eastern Sarangani, in coordination with the Special Operations Group – Southern Mindanao, successfully convened a total of Thirty-Six (36) trainees for the conduct of the Water Safety (WASAR) and Swift Water Rescue Training held at Poblacion Central Elementary School, Brgy. Poblacion, Glan, Sarangani Province.

This training is primarily an initiative of the OND HESSED Foundation Incorporated, bringing together participants from the MDRRMO of Malapatan, MDRRMO Glan, and BDRRMO personnel from eleven (11) barangays across two (2) municipalities. The collaborative effort highlights a unified commitment among agencies and local government units to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

The program aims to equip participants with essential knowledge, technical skills, and operational competence in water-based rescue operations. It covers critical areas such as swift water dynamics, rescue techniques, proper use of equipment, risk assessment, and responder safety. Through hands-on exercises and realistic simulations, trainees are prepared to effectively respond to emergencies involving floods, strong river currents, and other water-related hazards.

Ultimately, initiatives such as this reaffirm the commitment of all participating organizations to safeguard lives, protect communities, and build a more resilient Sarangani Province.
