Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, has commended the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) and BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) for their successful search and rescue (SAR) operations in Davao City yesterday, 13 January 2024.
CG Admiral Gavan also acknowledged CGDSEM District Commander, CG Commodore Rejard Marfe, and BRP Pangalao (FPB-2402)'s Commanding Officer, CG Captain George Maganto, who led the mission.
"I commend the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, CG Commodore Rejard Marfe, CG Captain George Maganto, and BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) for the very well-organized, timely, and successful search and rescue (SAR) operations," the Coast Guard Commandant said.
CGDSEM and BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) conducted a SAR operation and towed a stranded yacht named Pleasure Yacht Apkallu, navigating from Indonesia to Davao City for customs and immigration clearances.
The mission unfolded when the yacht reported engine failure approximately 8.8 nautical miles west southwest of Surup, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
CGDSEM swiftly responded to the distress call, deploying a BRP Panglao (FPB-4202), a rescue vessel equipped for towing, search, and rescue operations.
Under CG Captain George Maganto's command, the rescue vessel navigated challenging sea conditions to reach the location of the stranded yacht. The towing operation commenced promptly, ensuring the ship's and its passengers' safety.
The two passengers, identified as U.S. Citizens, were relieved and grateful for CGDSEM's rapid response and cooperated seamlessly with the rescue team.
The towing process was executed precisely, avoiding any complications despite the prevailing adverse weather conditions in the area.
