ADVOCACY WALK 2026: Different Contexts, Common Aspirations

In celebration of International Youth Day and Linggo ng Kabataan, the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, the Office of the Local Youth Development, the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare & Development, and various youth organizations of the Municipality of Guiuan successfully conducted an Advocacy Walk last August 21, 2023.

The activity brought together young leaders from different youth organizations, each carrying placards representing their respective causes — ranging from climate justice, child protection, and anti-corruption to mental health awareness and inclusivity. Though rooted in different contexts, these advocacies reflect a shared aspiration: a community that upholds the rights, welfare, and active participation of the youth.

This year's celebration, themed "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," highlights the diverse realities young people face while affirming their collective call for meaningful change and genuine representation.

The LGU of Guiuan extends its gratitude to all participating youth organizations for their active involvement and continued commitment to nation-building.

As the afternoon sun eased into the horizon, the youth of Guiuan showed up for the coastline they call home. Members of various youth organizations and the members of the Youth Development Council joined hands with the Barangay Council led by Brgy. Captain Lolito Pagayanan, together with personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard for a coastal clean-up along Dumpao, Brgy. Sapao.

Trash bags filled up fast, but so did the sense of pride in giving back to the sea that gives so much to the community. Collected waste was properly segregated on-site, and was set aside for the barangay's trash collector to pick up afterwards, ensuring the trash was properly and responsibly disposed of. The activity didn't stop there — a tree planting followed, with a grafted langka seedling planted in an area identified by the Barangay, a small but lasting addition to the community's green cover.

A heartfelt thank you to all participating youth organizations, the Barangay Council & SK Council of Barangay Sapao, Philippine Coast Guard, the Local Government Unit of Guiuan through Mayor Annaliza Gonzales - Kwan, MSWD Officer Maam Zenaida Cunanan, MDRRM Officer Atty. Christian Dado, SK Federation President Hon. Dale Somoray and the Office of the Local Youth Development for making this activity possible.

Activities like this remind us that caring for our home starts with simple, collective action.

This coastal clean-up and tree planting is in support of the province-wide launching of the Linggo ng Kabataan Celebration — a fitting way to live out this year's theme: "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations." Because no matter where our youth come from or what organization they belong to, we all aspire for the same thing: a cleaner, greener, and better future for Guiuan. 🌿

With the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” this year’s theme highlights the lived realities of youth everywhere—no matter the differences, every youth wishes for a sustainable future where they are engaged, enabled and empowered. 💪
