ARAW NG KALAYAAN 2020: YCU STATEMENT
As we celebrate our ​122nd day ​of independence, we remember those who have given their lives and continued to sacrifice for the democracy and freedom of this nation. A country founded on a strong sense of patriotism, loyalty, and unselfish dedication of the beloved Filipinos who courageously fought their oppressors to seize the full independence which we all enjoy and relish today.
The Young Centrists Union, a youth-led, non-profit and non-government organization is in unity with the entire country as we pay tribute to all the noble heroes of a meaningful past.
In the present time, several developments in our public policies and state affairs call for a collective effort to safeguard the freedom and democracy enshrined in the Philippine Constitution – the highest law of the land. Being a sovereign people, we are invited to fulfill upon our civic duties as Filipino citizens to oppose any impunity and abuses which threatens the regime of justice, freedom, truth and peace.
Moreover, the unprecedented devastation brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic to every lives of Filipino family challenges us to stay united as one nation. It is our moral
and civic duty to contribute to the good and welfare of each of us during this crisis.
To the government reposed with the highest authority and power, we urge them to take adequate solutions and strategies to combat this pandemic in the soonest possible time. We demand that this issue will be prioritized in terms of the effort and the efficient use of our public resources.
This commemoration reminds us of our resiliency and perseverance as strong people of a free nation. Hence, we call on everyone, especially our fellow youth to unite and take part in nation building to promote, protect and preserve this freedom. Through this, we become worthy of the independence which was paid for by the sacrifices of all our heroes who truly loved this country ahead of us.
