The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Eastern Samar Provincial Office, through Negosyo Center Hernani, successfully conducted a two-day Business, Expense, Savings Training (BEST) Game Workshop on April 14–15, 2026, held at the New Municipal Town Plaza, Brgy. Canciledes, Hernani, Eastern Samar. The activity was facilitated by Negosyo Center Technical Support Staff, J. Arceo, H. Alday, and J. Baris.

The workshop aimed to enhance the financial literacy, entrepreneurial mindset, and decision-making skills of participants through an interactive and engaging learning approach. Specifically, it sought to help micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) better understand the importance of proper budgeting, expense management, and savings in sustaining and growing their businesses.

Participants included members from various CSOs such as San Miguel ARB Association, Padang Coco Farmers Association, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Solo Parents, and Nagaja Women’s Association, along with 28 registered sari-sari store owners from Brgy. Garawon, Batang, and Carmen.

Through the BEST Game simulation, participants were able to experience real-life financial scenarios, allowing them to practice smart financial decisions in a risk-free environment. The activity fostered active participation, collaboration, and shared learning among attendees, equipping them with practical strategies they can apply in managing their enterprises and personal finances.

Overall, the workshop created a meaningful impact by strengthening participants’ confidence in handling finances, promoting responsible entrepreneurship, and supporting the long-term sustainability of local businesses and community organizations.

Today, March 18,2026, the DTI Eastern Samar Provincial Office, through Negosyo Center Hernani, successfully conducted a Business, Expenses, Savings Training (BEST) Game Workshop for Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) beneficiaries in Hernani, Eastern Samar, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Hernani through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and PLAN Philippines. The activity was attended by 25 participants representing various SLP beneficiary associations in the municipality.

The primary goal of the training was to enhance the participants’ financial literacy and entrepreneurial mindset by equipping them with practical knowledge and skills in managing business expenses, improving savings habits, and making informed financial decisions through an interactive and engaging learning approach using the BEST Game.

As an outcome, participants gained a better understanding of basic business concepts, budgeting, and the importance of financial discipline in sustaining their livelihoods. The workshop also encouraged active participation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among beneficiaries, empowering them to apply the lessons learned in their respective enterprises and contribute to the economic development of their communities.

This initiative reflects DTI’s continued commitment to empowering local entrepreneurs and supporting inclusive, sustainable community development in Eastern Samar.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Eastern Samar Provincial Office recently conducted a series of visits to academic institutions to strengthen its campaign on the Shared Service Facility (SSF) Program and the promotion of the Google Coursera Course (GCC).

The DTI team, headed by OIC-Provincial Director Pedro B. Tan, visited the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) - Main, Maydolong, Can-avid, and Arteche Campuses on March 2 &3, 2026 to engage administrators, deans, project officers, and faculty members in discussions on how the SSF program can support product development, improve productivity, and enhance the competitiveness of local MSMEs. The Google Coursera Certification Courses were likewise introduced as an opportunity for students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and faculty to access globally recognized online training programs in areas such as digital marketing, e-commerce, data analytics, UX design, and AI essentials.

The initiative aims to promote the SSF Program, a flagship project of DTI that provides machinery and equipment to state colleges and universities, eligible associations, cooperatives, and local government units to enhance productivity and improve product quality of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Through the campaign, DTI encouraged ESSU to explore SSF opportunities that can support priority sectors and community-based enterprises.

DTI-Eastern Samar emphasized that these initiatives are aligned with its mandate to foster entrepreneurship, strengthen industry development, and empower communities through capacity-building and innovation. The office expressed optimism that stronger collaboration with academic institutions will further expand opportunities for local enterprises and industries in Eastern Samar.

Strengthening consumer awareness and promoting inclusive entrepreneurship, Negosyo Center Technical Support Staff Jane Antonette E. Arceo of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Eastern Samar Provincial Office conducted a Consumer Advocacy session and orientation on DTI programs and services for the 4Ps beneficiaries of Barangay San Isidro, Hernani, Eastern Samar.

Held during their Family Development Session (FDS), the activity provided participants with valuable insights on their rights and responsibilities as consumers, equipping them with practical knowledge to make informed purchasing decisions and avoid unfair trade practices. In addition, the orientation introduced the various business development services, livelihood assistance programs, and entrepreneurial support initiatives of DTI aimed at empowering beneficiaries to explore sustainable income-generating opportunities.

Through this initiative, DTI continues its commitment to bringing government services closer to the grassroots and fostering a more informed, resilient, and empowered community

𝐃𝐓𝐈-𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐎, 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐢

The Department of Trade and Industry – Eastern Samar Provincial Office (DTI-ESPO), in partnership with Plan International Pilipinas Foundation Inc., successfully conducted the Community-Based Enterprise Development Training for Youth MSMEs on January 30 and February 2–3, 2026 at the Municipal Social Hall of Hernani, Eastern Samar.

The three-day activity capacitated 20 youth micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), all beneficiaries of Plan International’s Skills and Opportunities for Youth Economic Empowerment (SOYEE) Program. The training focused on strengthening the participants’ competencies in basic business management, marketing strategies, basic record-keeping, and business proposal formulation.

The initiative aimed to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of young business owners, equipping them with practical knowledge and tools necessary to effectively manage and grow their enterprises. Through interactive discussions and workshops, participants were guided in developing clearer business directions and improving their operational systems.

Of the 20 youth MSMEs assisted, 12 were female entrepreneurs and 8 were male. In terms of industry classification, 18 were engaged in agribusiness while 2 were involved in processed food enterprises—priority sectors identified to drive local economic growth in the municipality.

DTI-ESPO reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young entrepreneurs by providing capability-building interventions that foster sustainable and community-based enterprise development. Through strong partnerships with organizations like Plan International Pilipinas Foundation Inc., the agency continues to promote inclusive growth and youth economic empowerment in Eastern Samar.
