Senior Scouts and CDRRMO Join Hands for a Cleaner and Safer Community

The Senior Scouts of Raymundo T. Tongson National High School โ€“ Main Campus, headed by their Outfit Adviser, Mr. Francisco De La Peรฑa, Jr., conducted a meaningful community service activity in partnership with the Himamaylan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

The activity highlights the important role of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) as a partner of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Local Government Unit in promoting solid waste management, disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), and climate change adaptation (CCA).

Through teamwork and volunteerism, the Senior Scouts and CDRRMO demonstrated that building a clean, safe, and resilient community is a shared responsibility. Their partnership shows that when the community, the LGU, and young people work together, there is strength in unity and greater impact in addressing environmental and disaster-related challenges.

More than simply a community service activity, the initiative helped develop among the Scouts a stronger sense of discipline, responsibility, leadership, environmental awareness, and service to othersโ€”values that can inspire more young people to become active partners in building a safer, cleaner, and more resilient Himamaylan City.

In a major push to strengthen community disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) successfully concluded a three-day Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT) Summit from July 20 to 22 at the Himaya Hall, New City Hall.

The training summit equipped responders from all 18 barangays with essential, life-saving skills. Participating teams underwent lectures and practical drills focusing on, Basic First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), Patient Assessment, Bandaging and Splinting, and Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) Management.

To ensure focused and practical instruction, the cityโ€™s 18 barangays were divided into three clusters

Day 1 (July 20): Aguisan, Buenavista, Carabalan, Mahalang, Mambagaton, and Nabali-an.

Day 2 (July 21): San Antonio, Sara-et, Talaban, Barangay I-Poblacion, Barangay II-Poblacion, and Barangay III-Poblacion.

Day 3 (July 22): Cabadiangan, Cabanbanan, Caradio-an, Libacao, Su-ay, and To-oy.

The CDRRMO team highlighted that training barangay-level responders ensures faster, more effective initial care during medical emergencies and natural calamities before secondary medical backup arrives.
