President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the need to strengthen public-private partnerships in enhancing the country’s healthcare system during a meeting with the Healthcare Sector of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) on Thursday, November 24.

In the same meeting, PBBM directed the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) to benchmark digitalization initiatives to improve the national public health insurance and benefit operations. The Department of Health (DOH) also presented to the President various initiatives and programs for medical workers to address the concerns of the healthcare workforce.

In a meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) healthcare cluster, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. suggested offering scholarships to Filipino nurses to encourage service in the country and their respective communities before pursuing a career abroad.

The Department of Health (Philippines) had started discussions with the deans of the University of the Philippines and other related healthcare providers to put up a “ladderized” scholarship program. The DOH and the Department of Migrant Workers are also working together to find financing for scholarship and exchange programs with foreign governments needing healthcare professionals.

The Chief Executive is set to focus on food security, energy security, and climate change mitigation in his meeting with fellow leaders at the Summit, the first in-person meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. today attended the ASEAN - UN Summit during which he lauded the partnership in achieving its action lines for political-security, economic, socio-cultural and cross-sectoral cooperation in the 2021-2025 ASEAN-UN Plan of Action.

To support vulnerable sectors in the face of rising prices of commodities due to global inflation, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration will allocate around PHP 206.50 billion in subsidies and cash support under the proposed 2023 budget.

With PHP 165.40 billion, the Department of Social Welfare and Development will get a significant portion of the budget. The Department of Health (Philippines), meanwhile, will receive PHP 22.39 billion for the implementation of Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients.

The Labor Department’s Tulong sa Paghahanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Program will also be funded, while beneficiaries of programs from the Departments of Transportation and Agriculture will receive fuel assistance.
