Strengthening Newborn Screening Services in Zambales! 👶🩸

The Provincial Health Office of Zambales successfully conducted the Newborn Screening (NBS) Training for Newborn Screening Facility (NSF) Coordinators on July 8–9, 2026 at Funtasea Hotel & Resort, Iba, Zambales.

The two-day training gathered NSF Coordinators from Rural Health Units and government hospitals across the province to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in implementing quality newborn screening services. Participants attended lectures on the National Newborn Screening Program, Republic Act No. 9288, facility implementation, NSF accreditation, and administrative procedures, followed by a hands-on practicum on proper heel-prick blood specimen collection and filter card completion.

A significant highlight of the activity was the successful collection of 18 newborn screening blood specimens during the supervised practicum, allowing participants to apply national standards and best practices in actual newborn screening procedures.

The Provincial Health Office extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Health – Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH-CLCHD), the Newborn Screening Center Central Luzon (NSCCL), our dedicated resource speakers and facilitators, partner health facilities, and all participants for their invaluable support and commitment to ensuring that every newborn in Zambales receives timely, quality, and life-saving newborn screening services.

Together, we continue to protect the health of every child—because every newborn deserves a healthy start in life. 💙👶
