SWIFT COMMUNITY ACTION FOILS ATTEMPT TO TAKE ₱120K EQUIPMENT

A suspected theft involving construction equipment worth approximately ₱120,000.00 was promptly addressed after community safety personnel in Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City apprehended two individuals and recovered the dismantled equipment on August 8, 2026.

The incident came to light when a company representative heard repeated hammering sounds inside a construction compound and checked the area. He reportedly found a 54-year-old dump truck driver, who had been with the company for about 15 years, dismantling the equipment.

The individual later identified a 35-year-old utility driver from a sister company as allegedly having assisted in the dismantling and movement of the equipment.

Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) responded, secured the area, and took the two individuals into custody. The recovered equipment was likewise secured and turned over together with the suspects to the local police station for proper investigation and disposition.

The two individuals are facing a complaint for Qualified Theft under Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code. They will remain entitled to due process, and the determination of their liability rests with the proper authorities and the courts.

Chief, PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the incident demonstrates the value of alertness and immediate coordination at the community level.

“Hindi kailangang malaki agad ang insidente bago tayo kumilos. Kapag may nakitang kahina-hinalang kilos, ang mabilis na pag-alerto at tamang pagresponde can prevent further loss and help authorities establish what really happened,” PGen Nartatez said.

He added that the PNP will continue strengthening coordination with local communities and safety partners as part of its Enhanced Managing Police Operations under the PNP Focused Agenda, ensuring that police response remains timely, appropriate, and grounded in established procedures.

The PNP’s efforts support the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen public safety and responsive government service by ensuring that concerns raised at the community level receive appropriate police attention.

The PNP likewise reminds the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities through proper channels, and allow authorities to handle cases through established legal processes—part of building a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.

CIDG BUSTS PHP 13.4M ALLEGED COUNTERFEIT CI******ES, ARRESTS 7 IN MISAMIS ORIENTAL

On July 12, 2026 at around 3:30 AM to 9:30 AM, the CIDG Misamis Oriental/Camiguin Provincial Field Unit together with the Provincial Intelligence Team–Misamis Oriental; 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) of Misamis Oriental; and territorial police units conducted a law enforcement operation in Barangay San Luis, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental for violations of Republic Act No. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) and Republic Act No. 10643 (Graphic Health Warnings Law) that resulted in the arrest of seven suspects, and the confiscation of 335 master cases of assorted alleged counterfeit ci******es- Canon Menthol, Green Hills, Bosqu, Casablanca, Champion, and Castorce brands- with an estimated value of PhP13,400,000.00; three (3) vehicles allegedly used in transporting the illicit to***co products were also impounded.

A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of CIDG, stated that seven suspects were arrested - 6 males and 1 female, all of legal age, residents of Iligan, Sulu, Surigao del Norte, Zamboanga, and Pagadian, respectively, they were caught while in possession and control and transporting ci******es that do not have the required Graphic Health Warnings, and are allegedly counterfeit and bearing trademark and using brands without the authorization of the trademark owners.

The operation stemmed from the report of Philip Morris Fortune To***co Corporation (PMFTC) on the transport of alleged counterfeit or trademark infringing ci******es in Barangay San Luis, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

The CIDG Director emphasized that the State safeguards and promotes the welfare of the people by protecting consumers against unfair trade practices, particularly the proliferation of counterfeit products. He likewise stressed that the State promotes the people’s right to health by protecting consumers from substandard to***co products, with Republic Act No. 10643 (Graphic Health Warnings Law) mandates the printing of highly visual, picture-based health warnings on all to***co product packaging to effectively communicate the hazards of smoking.

The CIDG leadership commends PLTCOL Jerome Jay S Ragonton, the Officer-In-Charge of CIDG Regional Field Unit 10, and the CIDG Misamis Oriental/Camiguin Provincial Field Unit led by its Provincial Chief PMAJ Dan Junson V Espinosa for the successful operation. CIDG BUSTS ALLEGED “PAIHI” OF FUEL OPERATIONS IN MALABON, SEIZES PHP

In compliance with the directives of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, Police General JOSE MELENCIO C NARTATEZ JR., to intensify the government’s crackdown on illegal trading of liquefied petroleum products, the CIDG strengthened its law enforcement operations nationwide.

On July 10, 2026 at around 2:30 AM, the CIDG National Capital Region Regional Field Unit conducted a law enforcement operation against alleged “PAIHI” scheme of fuel in two tugboats docked in Barangay Concepcion, Malabon City that resulted in the arrest of four male suspects, and confiscation of two tugboats with more or less 105,070 liters of diesel fuel- with total estimated value of PhP17,220,000.00.

A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of CIDG, stated that the four arrested male suspects, all legal age, residents of Malabon, Albay and Isabela, respectively, were caught while engaging in the “paihi” of fuel operations or transferring of petroleum products from the tugboats boats to containers- without permit or authority from the Department of Energy (DOE).

The CIDG of Director emphasized that the state protects the public interest and national security by strengthening the regulation of petroleum products. He added that under Batas Pambansa Blg. 33, it is illegal to sell or distribute petroleum products for profit without the necessary license or authority from the proper authorities; and Presidential Decree 1865 (Illegal Trading in Petroleum Products) which amended BP 33 was enacted to address the emerging unfair trade practices and ensure energy conservation.

The CIDG leadership lauds the CIDG Regional Field Unit of National Capital Region headed by PCOL John K Guiagui, the Regional Chief for the successful busting of illegal trading of petroleum products. “Paihi" scheme is considered hazardous because it is done in clandestine, unmonitored locations, creating a high risk of fires and explosions.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) demonstrated that the true calling of a police officer extends far beyond crime investigation and law enforcement- it is about protecting lives, extending compassion, and responding without hesitation to those in need. This unwavering commitment to Serbisyong Tapat was exemplified when personnel of Major Crimes Investigation Unit (MCIU) of CIDG promptly responded to and assisted victims of a vehicular accident along 20th Avenue, Brgy. San Roque, Cubao, Quezon City, at around 7:35 AM on July 9, 2026.

A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, Director of the CIDG, stated that while traversing the area, MCIU personnel- PCPT Amron Saidamen, PLT Mary Ann Meca, and PSSg Benedicto An came upon a recently occurred road accident involving a motorcycle and a bicycle- involving 3 victims. Without hesitation and despite being engaged in their official duties, they immediately rushed to the victims' aid. They secured the accident scene, directed the flow of traffic to prevent further danger, and swiftly coordinated with emergency responders to ensure that the injured kababayan received urgent medical attention.

Shortly thereafter, Emergency Team from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) and personnel from Police Station 7 of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrived at the scene. First aid was immediately administered upon the victims before being safely transported to the nearest hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

CIDG COLLARS SUSPECT FOR ALLEGED ELECTRICITY MATERIAL PILFERAGE IN CAVITE

On July 7, 2026 at around 1:12 PM, the Regional Special Operations Team (RSOT) of CIDG Regional Field Unit 4A together with the CIDG Cavite Provincial Field Unit, and represented from Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) conducted a law enforcement operation for violation of Section 2 (Illegal Use of Electricity) and Section 3 (Theft of electric power transmission lines and materials) of Republic Act No. 7832 (Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Pilferage Act of 1994) in Brgy. Langkaan 1, Dasmariñas City, Cavite that resulted in the arrest of one male suspect, and confiscation of more or less 61 meters of electrical wire - alleged subject of theft, with an estimated value of PhP5,108.54.

A report that reached PMGEN ROBERT AA MORICO II, the Director of CIDG, stated that the suspect “Ador” male, 28 years old, a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) rider, and resident of Brgy. Tunasan, Muntinlupa City was caught while selling a MERALCO owned- electrical wire.

The operation stemmed from a complaint of the MERALCO regarding an alleged theft and selling of electrical wire owned by the company, an act of electricity material pilferage which is punishable under the law.

The CIDG Director emphasized that Republic Act No. 7832, also known as the "Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994," was enacted to curb the rampant theft of electricity, electricity materials, electricity pilferage, and tampering of electrical infrastructure in the Philippines. The law recognizes that pilferage leads to significant revenue losses for electric companies, increased electricity rates for lawful consumers, and damages to electric infrastructure, thereby threatening public safety.

The accomplishment is the result of the partnership of the PNP and MERALCO to intensify the fight against the theft and pilferage of power distribution facilities and materials across the country.

The renewed Memorandum of Understanding, signed on 8 June 2026 at Camp Crame, intensified cooperation on investigations, law enforcement, and the stricter implementation of Republic Act No. 7832, or the Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act. The partnership also seeks to improve public awareness on the dangers and consequences of using stolen electric meters, cables, and wires.

The CIDG leadership commends the CIDG Regional Field Unit 4A under PCOL Ganaban C Ali for the accomplishment. The arrest of the suspect and confiscation of the alleged stolen electricity material/wires underscore the Unit’s dedication on fighting electricity pilferage.
