PuroKalusugan in Action | Bringing Quality Healthcare Closer to Every Iliganon
The PuroKalusugan Program of the Department of Health continues to strengthen community-based primary healthcare by bringing essential health services directly to the people. With the active participation of 19 additional barangays in Iligan City, the program expands its reach to ensure that more families have access to quality, equitable, and compassionate healthcare.
Through regular household visits, health assessments, blood pressure monitoring, health education, and early disease detection, healthcare workers and barangay health teams work hand in hand to promote healthier communities. This initiative reflects the shared commitment of the Department of Health, the City Government of Iligan, and local stakeholders to build a healthier, more resilient Iliganโ€”where every family receives the care they deserve, right at their doorstep.
"Healthy communities begin at the grassroots. Together, we make healthcare accessible, inclusive, and closer to every Iliganon through PuroKalusugan."

Kung adunay hulga sa baha, pagbakwit dayon ngadto sa luwas nga lugar ug sundon ang mga pahimangno sa lokal nga awtoridad.

Empowering Healthcare Workers Through Knowledge and Service

From June 1โ€“5, 2026, selected Human Resources for Health (HRH) personnel from Iligan City and Lanao del Norte participated in the HIV Counseling and Testing Training held at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

The training was facilitated by the Infectious Disease Control Center (IDC) of DOH CHD NM with the Health Human Resource Development Unit (HRDU). It provided participants with essential knowledge and skills in HIV counseling, testing, prevention, and linkage to care, strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers to deliver quality, compassionate, and stigma-free services.

As HIV cases continue to rise, initiatives like this play a vital role in building a competent and responsive health workforce. Grateful for this opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to the collective effort toward ending HIV as a public health threat.

The City of Iligan successfully celebrated the May Measurement Month on May 29, 2026 at the Iligan City Public Plaza, bringing together health advocates, partners, and the community in promoting awareness on hypertension and other lifestyle-related diseases.

The activity was spearheaded by the CHO Iligan Non-Communicable Disease Unit in partnership with City DOH Iligan, highlighting the importance of regular blood pressure monitoring, healthy lifestyle practices, and early prevention of chronic illnesses. The event also aimed to encourage the public to take proactive steps in maintaining their health and well-being.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the inspiring health talk delivered by Dr. Elija Miguel T. Bibera, who shared valuable insights on lifestyle medicine and the importance of healthy habits in preventing non-communicable diseases. In unity and remembrance, the City Health Office โ€“ Iligan through ILIG Care Hub, together with SHIP Iligan, successfully facilitated the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Movement (IACMM) 2026 on May 17, 2026 at Iligan City Public Plaza with the theme: โ€œLight the Legacy: Remember, Advance, Act.โ€

The event gathered various partner agencies, advocates, healthcare workers, and stakeholders in a meaningful solidarity walk to honor the lives lost to HIV/AIDS, support those living with HIV, and strengthen the fight against stigma and discrimination.

Among the participating agencies was the City DOH Iligan headed by DMO IV Jose Lee T. Vanguardia, who actively joined the solidarity walk in showing support and commitment toward HIV awareness, prevention, and compassionate care.

The activity served as a reminder that every light carries a story, every step carries hope, and every voice matters in building a more informed, inclusive, and stigma-free community.

Safe Mommy, Healthy Baby: Buntis Congress 2026

On May 26, 2026, Brgy. Digkilaan in Iligan City came alive with warmth and purpose as the City Health Office, together with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Iligan City, successfully staged the annual โ€œSafe Mommy, Healthy Babyโ€ Buntis Congress 2026.

Under the meaningful theme โ€œKalidad na pangangalaga sa Ina, Kalusugan ng sanggol may garantiyaโ€ (Quality care for mothers means guaranteed health for babies), the program was crafted to give every pregnant woman the knowledge, awareness, and support they need for a safe pregnancy and healthy delivery.

Participants attended educational sessions covering proper maternal and newborn care practices, as well as the critical role of complete immunization in keeping both mother and child safe. A dedicated lecture on HIV awareness was also shared, ensuring that every mother understood how to protect herself and her unborn baby from preventable health risks. To make the day even more meaningful, each attendee went home with a Motherโ€™s Kitโ€”a practical package of essentials to help them prepare for their journey into motherhood.

More than just an event, the Buntis Congress 2026 stands as a clear promise from Iligan Cityโ€™s health and local leaders: that quality care will reach every mother, no matter how far she lives, and that every baby gets the best possible start in life.
