1 John 5:9-13 kjv 2016

5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; because this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.
5:10 He who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he does not believe the record that God gave of His Son.
5:11 And this is the record: that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
5:12 He who has the Son has life; and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
5:13 These things I have written to you who believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Notes:

1. The words witness, testify, record, are from the same word “marturos, marturia” in the greek.

2. The word “hath” is ἔχω échō; imperf. eíchon, fut. héxō, 2d aor. éschon, perf. éschēka. To have, to hold, i.e., to have and hold, implying continued possession, trans. - is consistent with the word “receive”. Eternal life is a gift, we have to receive it to have it. Eternal life is only found in Jesus, that is why he who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son has not life.
