The City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), together with the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO), City Engineerโ€™s Office (CEO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), participated in the Provision of Technical Assistance on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Geotagging Applications for Disaster Management conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office X through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) from May 26 to 29, 2026.

The four-day activity focused on the updating of geospatial data for designated evacuation centers across 44 barangays in Iligan City. Participating personnel were equipped with GIS and geotagging applications and conducted field validation activities to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information on existing evacuation facilities.

As part of the activity, CPDO personnel together with other Offices were deployed to the field and divided into two teams to facilitate the geotagging, mapping, and validation of evacuation centers. The teams also conducted interviews with key barangay representatives and facility managers to gather relevant data and verify information for inclusion in the system.

The initiative aims to strengthen the city's resource mapping capabilities and enhance disaster preparedness by establishing a more accurate and updated database of evacuation centers. The collected geospatial data will contribute to improved Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) reporting, support real-time monitoring during emergencies, and facilitate informed decision-making in disaster response and management.

Through collaborative efforts among local government offices and partner agencies, Iligan City continues to enhance its disaster resilience by leveraging technology and data-driven planning to better protect and serve its communities.
