Today, we entrust my son to SOLAS Training. As he begins this new journey, we pray that God will surround him with His protection, grant him wisdom, courage, and strength, and help him grow in every lesson he learns. May this training not only equip him with valuable skills but also prepare him for the greater battles and opportunities that life holds ahead. We pray that he will become disciplined, resilient, and confident in facing every challenge, always guided by God’s hand. May He keep him safe throughout the training and bless every step of his journey.

Every school has a story. Kalubihon High School is a story of courage, sacrifice, and a community that chose hope over hardship.

Back in 2011–2012, a high school in Kalubihon was only a dream. Every day, many students traveled long distances just to attend classes. Others quietly gave up on their education because their families could no longer bear the cost of transportation and daily expenses. For many parents, watching their children set aside their dreams was heartbreaking.

But one leader believed that education should never depend on distance or poverty.

Barangay Kagawad Aloha Oracion became one of the strongest advocates for the establishment of Kalubihon High School, tirelessly pushing the project from the barangay level to the DepEd Division Office. She carried the community’s dream, believing that every child deserved the opportunity to learn close to home.

When the school had no permanent building, she personally donated ₱15,000 to help construct a makeshift classroom—a humble beginning that became a place where countless dreams took root.

Despite many challenges and a lengthy approval process, the community persevered. Through determination and the growing student population, Kalubihon High School was officially established in 2012, with Principal Ricardo Apiong, then Principal of Kalubihon Elementary School, serving as its first principal.

The impact of that decision continues to be felt today. The school has not only enabled generations of young people to complete their education, but has also created teaching positions that gave many educators the opportunity to become regular teachers in the Department of Education. What began as a single vision has transformed the lives of students, teachers, and families throughout the community.

One classroom became a school. One school changed a community. And one act of leadership created opportunities that continue to shape generations.

Because true leadership is not measured by the office one holds, but by the lives one uplifts.

For Barangay Kagawad Aloha Oracion, empowering people begins with investing in education. Through the partnership of the Office of Congressman Celso Gomera Regencia, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and the Rotary Club of Iligan North, this scholarship program gives the fisherfolk of Dalipuga and their children the opportunity to pursue their dreams and rise above poverty.

Because when one student succeeds, a family is uplifted, a community grows stronger, and hope is passed on to the next generation.

With BFAR’s water quality assessment now underway, another milestone is reached toward sustainable livelihoods, food security, and a brighter future for every fishing family.
