Mr. Kelven Ka-shing Lit, Managing Director of Censpot Trading Corporation, brought a global perspective to the discussion by stressing that innovation only becomes powerful when it is ready for the market. He encouraged startups to think beyond local boundaries and prepare for international expansion early.

Mr. Lit emphasized that the Philippines is rapidly emerging as a formidable powerhouse for tech innovation in ASEAN. He also stressed that scaling Filipino startups globally requires more than capital; it needs a strong “super-connector” framework that links innovation, markets, and partnerships.

He also highlighted Hong Kong’s readiness to serve as a springboard for Philippine innovations, noting the momentum from discussions with DOST-TAPI. Mr. Lit further invited top Filipino innovators to the upcoming ASEAN-Hong Kong NextGen Summit in November 2026 to strengthen cross-border collaboration, investment, and talent mobility.

A mobile app developed in Mindanao to help non-verbal children communicate is gaining international attention after representing the island at a major technology expo in Hong Kong.

Iligan City-based startup Pic-A-Talk was the only Mindanao representative among six Philippine innovations showcased at the inaugural LEAP East Hong Kong 2026, where local startups pitched their technologies to global investors, technology firms and innovation leaders.

Startup Iligan PH Council Executive Director Paul Hui Lagura, Head of CDIIS, caught up with Co-Founder Jojo Flores of Plug and Play and BetterGov.PH Founder Jason Torres and discussed strengthening Iligan’s innovators to the broader technology and startup scene.

For an inclusive ecosystem, the insight exchange opens doors for community innovators, founders, and enablers and shows how collaboration matters to the government, investors, and civic and tech communities to provide solutions to local issues and commercialization among local startups.

Plug and Play is a global platform with 60 locations and a network of 100,000 startups that offers engagements from market access to acceleration. BetterGov.PH, for its part, is a volunteer-driven open-source movement working to make Philippine government data more actionable and transparent for the public.

The Iligan Startup Council, chaired by Mayor Frederick Siao, together with the Center for Digital Iligan, Innovation and Sustainability, and the Digital Creatives Hub Iligan, is providing a policy center and innovation space for innovators and founders to develop ideas that are scalable and responsive to the community. The meeting also set the stage for further knowledge sharing on investment readiness, digital governance, and civic tech.
