OPVet-Iloilo Distributes Veterinary Supplies, IEC Materials, and Neutering Kits to Livestock Technicians

​August 24, 2026 — To strengthen local animal health programs and boost rabies eradication efforts, the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet) distributed vital veterinary supplies, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, and neutering kits during its 3rd Quarter Meeting today.

​The distribution included oral drench and injectable dewormers, soluble and injectable vitamins, and antibiotics. In addition, field technicians received neutering kits and IEC materials covering rabies prevention, the TaHuM campaign, and provincial animal movement requirements.

​The quarterly meeting convened local government unit (LGU) livestock technicians to address critical biosecurity and animal health concerns across the province, including:

*​Presser updates on African Swine Fever (ASF) and Avian Influenza
*​Management of Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs)
*​Rabies Prevention and Control strategies
*​Regulations on provincial animal movement and current field activities

​Through this initiative, OPVet reinforces its commitment to empowering LGU partners, improving animal welfare, and safeguarding public health throughout Iloilo.

EMPOWERING BARANGAY VACCINATORS: Strengthening Animal Health in the Community
‎
‎​The Barangay Vaccinators Training Program continues to bring essential animal health knowledge and services directly to local communities in the province. From January to June 2026, training sessions were conducted across eight (8) municipalities, equipping 238 Barangay Vaccinators with key competencies in proper vaccination practices, vaccine cold-chain management, basic animal care, and disease prevention and control. Hands-on exercises and field demonstrations ensured participants gained practical, real-world experience and the confidence to assist local livestock raisers.

​On August 4–5, 2026, OPVet trained 25 additional Barangay Vaccinators in Estancia. The intensive two-day course covered essential vaccination protocols, disease recognition, preventive health, and responsible drug usage, paired with practical field exercises in health assessment and animal handling.‎

‎​With 263 Barangay Vaccinators trained in 2026, the program continues to build a resilient, community-based animal health network. Beyond skill-building, it positions vaccinators as vital frontline partners who empower farmers to protect their livestock, detect diseases early, and report outbreaks promptly—ultimately safeguarding rural livelihoods and advancing provincial food security.

HEAL Awards 2026: Honoring Iloilo LGUs’ Excellence in Rabies Prevention and Control

The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian has formally recognized 11 Local Government Units (LGUs) for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding public health through the HEAL Award 2026, which celebrates outstanding performances of LGUs in implementing the province’s Health programs.

Leading the honorees, the Municipality of Oton claimed the prestigious title of Top Performer—a historic achievement that marks three consecutive years of securing the top spot. This remarkable streak stands as a testament to Oton’s consistent, robust efforts: from aggressive anti‑rabies information campaigns and widespread responsible pet ownership advocacy to maintaining exceptional levels of animal vaccination coverage across the community.

Following closely in recognition of their notable progress and effective rabies mitigation work:

- 🥉 3rd Place: Municipality of Banate

Eight additional LGUs also received special recognition and cash incentives for their active participation, strong commitment, and invaluable contributions to rabies prevention and public welfare:

OPVet-Iloilo CONDUCTS STRATEGIC RABIES CONTROL OPERATIONS IN LEGANES, SAN DIONISIO AND ESTANCIA

​As part of the ongoing provincial campaign to strengthen animal welfare and eliminate rabies, veterinary surgeons from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet-Iloilo) successfully conducted a two-day neutering drive on July 23 in Leganes and July 24 in San Dionisio.

​In a parallel initiative aimed at policy implementation and community-level verification, representatives from the Provincial Rabies Control Committee (PRCC)—led by the Provincial Rabies Coordinators—met with the Municipal Officials of Estancia today. The coordination meeting included local leaders from three island barangays slated for assessment toward an official Rabies-Free Island Declaration.

📢 ATTENTION ALL PET OWNERS IN ILOILO PROVINCE!

​Let's work together to make our communities safer and rabies-free!

🐾 As a gentle but important reminder, we are highlighting key provisions of PROVINCIAL ORDINANCE NO. 2018-177, the RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP ORDINANCE OF THE PROVINCE OF ILOILO 2018.

​Below is a quick guide on two very important responsibilities for EVERY pet owner in our province. Please read and share this information!

​1️⃣ COMPULSORY VACCINATION FOR ALL RABIES-SUSCEPTIBLE PETS (Section IV)

​It is unlawful to keep any dog or cat that is not vaccinated against anti-rabies.

​Initial vaccination must be followed by annual re-vaccination (every 1 year) in coordination with your City/Municipal Veterinary or Agriculture Office.
​Refusal to have your pet vaccinated is punishable with penalties as provided for in the Ordinance.

💉 Protect your pet and your family!

​2️⃣ COMPULSORY REGISTRATION OF DOMESTICATED PETS (Section V)

​All dogs and cats MUST BE REGISTERED with the Office of Punong Barangay in your village.

​It is unlawful to own, keep, or have control of an unregistered pet.
​Your barangay is responsible for notifying all residents about this registration provision. Get your pet a ticket to official recognition!
​Responsible pet ownership is not just about caring for our pets; it's also about respecting and protecting our community. Let’s eliminate the threat of rabies and ensure a harmonious environment for everyone.

🐾 SUCCESSFUL LIBRE KAPON IN CARLES! 🐾

Today marked another successful milestone for responsible pet ownership as the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian conducted a Free Spay and Neuter (Libre Kapon) Activity at Timbo-ok Park, Carles, Iloilo.

A total of 44 pets were successfully neutered through the dedicated efforts of our veterinary surgeons, helping improve animal health and welfare while contributing to the prevention of pet overpopulation and unwanted litters in the community.

‎This initiative reflects our continued commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and creating safer, healthier communities for both pets and their owners.

‎​📢🐾🛡️ WORKING TOGETHER FOR A RABIES-FREE PROVINCE: 2nd Provincial Rabies Control Committee (PRCC) Meeting Convened!

July 2, 2026 | Members of the Provincial Rabies Control Committee (PRCC), representing various government agencies, convened for the 2nd PRCC Meeting to reinforce inter-agency collaboration and strengthen the Province's rabies prevention and control efforts.

The meeting served as an opportunity to review the accomplishments of the Rabies Prevention and Control Program during the first half of 2026, assess the challenges encountered in program implementation, and discuss strategic actions to further enhance rabies control initiatives across the province. Through productive discussions and coordinated planning, the committee reaffirmed its commitment to protecting both public health and animal welfare.

Rabies prevention is a shared responsibility. By working together—government agencies, local government units, partner stakeholders, and responsible pet owners—we can create safer, healthier communities and move closer to achieving a rabies-free province.

🐾 TWENTY-FIVE (25) PETS STERILILIZED DURING NEUTERING ACTIVITY IN DUEÑAS, ILOILO 🐾

The Dueñas Municipal Agriculture Office, in collaboration with the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVet), successfully conducted a free neutering activity today, June 24, 2026, in Dueñas, Iloilo.

The activity resulted in the successful sterilization of 25 companion animals, consisting of 22 male pets and 3 female pets. This initiative forms part of the continuing efforts of the local government and veterinary authorities to promote responsible pet ownership, control the stray animal population, and support rabies prevention programs within the community.

Through collaborative efforts such as this, pet owners are encouraged to take an active role in ensuring the health and welfare of their animals while contributing to safer and healthier communities.
