With the continued implementation of the “Oplan Kontra Baha” in this city, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 has intensified its flood mitigation efforts to address the city’s drainage and waterway concerns while providing temporary local employment.

This collaborative initiative involving the DOLE Iloilo Field Office, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo City Government, various barangays, and the Philippine National Police (PNP), supports the national government’s campaign, which President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. officially launched late last year to clean and de-clog waterways in flood-prone communities.

Using the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T., Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) consultant neurologist Dr. Ryndell G. Alava, during the recent Kapihan sa PIA Western Visayas, outlined the manifestations if an individual is already experiencing a brain attack or stroke.

The medical expert stressed that time is critical in this situation. When observed at least one of these sudden manifestations, bring the person immediately to the hospital.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office (SDO) of Roxas City and the Roxas City government will build an additional 100 classrooms for the school year 2026 to 2027 to boost the quality of education and address classroom shortages in public schools.

Roxas City OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Adonis Mosquera noted that out of the 100 additional classrooms, 50 will be newly constructed and the other 50 will undergo repair.

He emphasized that every second matters during a stroke emergency. Arriving at the hospital sooner for assessment and a brain scan lessens damage and results in better outcomes.

The students and teachers of Olotayan Integrated School (IS) in the island barangay of Olotayan in Roxas City received a digital boost from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

“Isang napakalaking ginhawa at patuloy na inspirasyon ito para sa aming buong komunidad. Binigyan niyo kami ng pag-asa,” said Olotayan IS head Agnes Alimonsurin during the GSIS Stakeholders Forum.

Under the GSIS Adopt-a-School program, the beneficiary school will receive a customized P400,000.00 technology assistance package to improve digital learning for local students.
