IN FOCUS! Strengthening the DSWD–BFAR Partnership for Sustainable Livelihoods

Regional Partnership Officer Elmer Jamolin and Provincial Partnership Officer Ma. Josefina C. Torre paid a coordination visit to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), represented by its Partnership Officer, Ms. Maria Aimee Sobrevega, to discuss the proposed renewal of the partnership between the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and BFAR.

The engagement highlighted the need to establish a new Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formalize and further strengthen the partnership, particularly as BFAR serves
as one of the Department’s partners under the Program Convergence Budgeting (PCB).

Building on the partnership’s initial gains, BFAR has previously provided technical assistance in the preparation of livelihood project proposals and conducted capability-building activities and trainings related to aquaculture livelihoods for SLP Associations
(SLPAs) in the Province of Guimaras.

The renewed partnership aims to sustain this collaboration and further enhance technical support, capacity-building, and livelihood opportunities for SLP beneficiaries engaged in fisheries and aquaculture enterprises./mjctorre

IN FOCUS! Strengthening Convergence for Sustainable Livelihood.

DSWD-SLP provided updates on the implementation and monitoring of livelihood interventions during the Buenavista Municipal Convergence Committee (MCC) Meeting held recently at Buenavista, Guimaras. The regular convergence activity brought together representatives from the Sustainable Livelihood Program, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), and the Local Government Unit of Buenavista to discuss the progress of SLP initiatives, monitoring results, and continuing coordination efforts.

The meeting also served as a platform to strengthen collaborative support for graduating 4Ps beneficiaries, particularly in facilitating access to sustainable livelihood opportunities and interventions that can help them establish and maintain stable sources of income as they transition out of the program./Ian John Fetiza

IN FOCUS! Strengthening Livelihoods Through Convergence and Technical Assistance.

The DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program – Iloilo City–Guimaras (SLP-ICG) conducted a joint project monitoring and provision of technical assistance to South Fundidor On-Site SLP Association, engaged in rice retailing, and San Juan 23 SLP Association, which operates a commodity store livelihood enterprise established through the Seed Capital Fund (SCF) from DSWD - SLP.

Led by SLP-ICG Team Leader Ma. Gracia B. Trabado, the joint monitoring was conducted in collaboration with Ms. Shiela S. Saplagio of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) and representatives from the Iloilo City Local Housing Office (ICLHO), Mr. June Puti and Ms. Peach Crystal Z. Rinlla.

The activity aimed to assess the current operations of the livelihood enterprises, identify areas requiring technical assistance, and ensure the proper management and sustainability of the resources provided through the SLP. Through strengthened convergence and continued monitoring, the partners seek to help the SLP Associations sustain their livelihood ventures and improve the socio-economic well-being of their members./Ma. IN FOCUS: CONNECTING PEOPLE TO OPPORTUNITIES!

Three Project Development Officers (PDOs) of the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) – Iloilo City–Guimaras (ICG) - Coleen Gabaleo, Luzielle Golez, and Gracecel Gabaleo served as facilitators during the Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong
Tapat Para sa Lahat, held recently at the Capitol Grounds, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

The PDOs facilitated orientations for jobseekers during the Job Fair and assisted SLP participants during KADIWA ng Pangulo, where eight ( 8 ) SLP Associations (SLPAs) and three (3) individual SLP participants from Guimaras showcased their locally produced
products, including kakanin, kasuy bandi, vegetables, and eggs.

Through this market platform, the SLPAs and program participants were given an opportunity to expand their market reach, promote their products, connect with potential customers, and generate additional income helping strengthen their livelihood enterprises and move toward sustainability.

The Job Fair likewise resulted in eight ( 8 ) jobseekers hired on the spot (HOTS) - four from Buenavista, three from Jordan, and one from San Lorenzo. They will undergo assessment for eligibility under the SLP Employment Facilitation Track. Once found qualified, they may receive an Employment Assistance Fund to help cover expenses related to their employment requirements.

From livelihood products to employment opportunities, SLP continues to bring government services closer to communities - connecting people not only to assistance, but to markets, jobs, income, and opportunities for a more sustainable and self-reliant
future./mjctorre/Gracecel Coleen Gabaleo

🧠 CHARACTER OF THE MONTH (AUGUST)
Theme: WISDOM vs. FOOLISHNESS 🌱

Wisdom is not about knowing everything—it’s about knowing what is right and choosing to act on it. Foolishness, on the other hand, often comes from ignoring good advice and making choices without thinking of the consequences.

Congratulations to our outstanding awardees! 🏆✨
🌱 Level 1 – Laila B. Quiñanola
💪 Level 2 – Haiddee B. Manato
✨ Choose wisdom. Think before you act, learn from your experiences, and let every decision lead you toward growth and a better future.
