The WorkAbilities Center once again collaborated with the Henry Luce III Library to conduct a meaningful and inclusive internship program that highlighted the value of opportunity, growth, and community collaboration.
The internship commenced with a Welcome Program held on February 23, 2026, at the American Corner Iloilo, welcoming four learners with special needs who were given the chance to experience a supportive workplace environment within the university library. The initiative aimed to provide hands-on learning experiences, build confidence, and help develop practical skills that can prepare the learners for future employment opportunities.
Over the 10-day internship, the learners were introduced to various basic library tasks and routines under the guidance of librarians and student assistants. Through patience, encouragement, and teamwork, the participants gained valuable exposure to workplace responsibilities while also strengthening their communication, independence, and social interaction skills.
The program concluded with a Closing Program held on March 12, 2026, where the interns, their parents and guardians, mentors, and supervisors gathered to celebrate the successful completion of the internship. The event was also honored by the presence of Dra. Cecile Dagohoy, the university presidentโs wife. A special highlight of the closing program was the recognition of the learners for their dedication, enthusiasm, and growth throughout the internship, celebrated through the presentation of ribbons and certificates.
This partnership between the Henry Luce III Library and the WorkAbilities Center continues to demonstrate the universityโs commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and community engagement. By providing meaningful opportunities for learners with special needs, the program fosters a culture that values diversity and ensures that every individual is given the chance to learn, contribute, and thrive.
The success of this yearโs internship once again affirms that when institutions work together with compassion and purpose, they can create spaces where everyone feels welcomed and capable of achieving their potential.
