Kung Fu Panda is a 2008 American animation film produced by DreamWorks and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Po (Jack Black) is a giant panda whose dream is to learn Kung Fu. He works for his father, Mr. Ping (James Hong) in a noodle restaurant in the Valley of Peace.

One day, a festival was held. All the people of the valley have gathered up there to witness the choosing of the Dragon Warrior. Five contenders, named the “Furious Five” have been selected to fight Tai Lung (Ian McShane): Monkey (Jackie Chan), Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Crane (David Cross). All five have been trained by Mater Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) but it’s up to the temple master Oogway (Randal Duk Kim), an ancient turtle, to make the final selection, and he chooses Po. At first, Master Shifu was unsatisfied with his appearance because Po looks very fat and fool so Shifu try to kick him out.

One night, Po was very depressed and was eating a peach, at that time Master Oogway talked to Po and he said, “Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift that’s why we call it the present.”But Shifu didn’t believe the old master’s saying. One day, old Master Oogway told Shifu that Po is the real dragon warrior so Shifu must believe him and Master Oogway disappeared. Then, Master Shifu began to believe him as time goes by. He taught Po through special training.

Meanwhile, Tai Long (a snow leopard), a former student of Mater Shifu who desires to be the Dragon Warrior, escaped from prison and returns to the Valley of Peace. Sadly, the Furious Five members (Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper, and Crane) who were trained by Shifu were defeated and failed to prevent Tai Lung from entering the valley.So Shifu decided to stay and face Tai Lung alone. The citizens were forced to evacuate the valley. As expected the battle between the former student and teacher took place. Eventually, when Tai Lung was about to win, Po appeared and challenged Tai Lung. As a result, Po defeated the enemy and the valley had peace once again.

The movie Kung Fu Panda makes us believe to continue to look forward to our dreams and passion as what we have learned throughout the movie. No matter how hard the way to achieve it, don’t quit.

Synopsis:
This movie is based on the German fairy tale “Rapunzel”.

The movie tells about the story of a lost princess with the long magical hair. Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) was kidnapped when she was a baby by Gothel (Donna Murphy) who wanted the magical hair of Rapunzel. Gothel raised her as her daughter in an isolated tower. Rapunzel yearned to leave the tower. Nearing her eighteenth birthday, she asked Mother Gothel’s permission to leave the tower and discover the source of the lanterns but Gothel didn’t allow her.

, a thief named Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) has stolen Rapunzel’s crown and discovered the tower. Rapunzel captured Flynn and discovered the crown. Mother Gothel was enraged when Rapunzel asked her again to leave the tower so with the help of Flynn, they escaped from the tower. She started to discover about the source of the lanterns with Flynn but they met a lot of hindrances while discovering it. Finally, they overcame it and she found out her real status in life and her parents. She achieved her dreams and get happy.

What I like about the movie is when she tried to leave the tower and she met a lot of obstacles while they were trying to escape.

This is the simple plot of the movie. If Rapunzel gave up leaving the tower, she might end up staying in the tower eternally. However, she tried to go out and achieve her dreams. Through this movie we can learn a good lesson which is if you have a dream, don’t give up easily because you will succeed if you work hard for it.

This movie is not only for children but also for adults and everyone can enjoy watching it. In addition this movie teaches us a good moral lesson in life that’s why I recommend it to you. Despite the fact that this movie is only an animation, everybody can have much fun, Tangled is creative, interesting and the graphics are awesome so it’s worth a few hours of your time.

“SAMGYETANG (GINSENG CHICKEN SOUP)”

Samgyetang is an ancient variety of Korean soup that primarily consists of a whole young chicken and Korean ginseng. It is traditionally served during the summer season in Korea. Many Koreans enjoy it on the three specific days in summer particularly in Chobok, Jungbok, and Malbok, which Koreans believe to be the hottest season of the year. It supplies nutrients for physical exertion and stamina so it’s eaten to regain the loss of stamina due to summer heat.

Here are the ingredients and the methods.
1 whole young chicken, 1/4 cup of sweet rice, 4 cloves of garlic, salt & pepper, Korean ginseng root, dried seeded jujube fruits and ginger.

The first thing to do is wash and rinse the chicken in cold running water then remove all the body organs of the chicken. Meanwhile, soak 1/4 cup of sweet rice in cold water for 1 hour, then drain. Next, stuff the chicken cavity with the sweet rice, a ginseng root, a few jujubes, and 3-4 cloves of garlic. And then, pour water into the pot until the chicken is completely submerged in broth and boil it over high heat for 20 minutes. When it starts boiling, skim off any foam and fat that rises to the surface. Then, pour in more water into the pot and boil it over medium heat for 40 minutes. The Samgyetang is done when the chicken will be easily pulled apart by chopsticks and the sticky rice is thoroughly cooked. Finally, serve it with salt and pepper and kimchi or kaktugi.

“EGG RICE”

Do you remember some special food? Or are you good at cooking? Many people have their own recipes. When they are hungry, they usually cook food with their recipe.

I also have my recipe. This food has no name. My family just calls it “Egg rice”. Long time ago, when we had no enough ingredients and cooking was bothersome, my mother usually cooked this food. This food has simple ingredients such as soy, egg, sesame oil, and rice. These are the standard ingredients. If you want to add something, you can. In my case, I sometimes add some anchovy, cuttlefish, sweet potato, etc. You can put in any ingredients you can find in your refrigerator.

First, prepare the ingredients. Second, just put in all ingredients but make sure to use only 1 spoon of soy and sesame oil. If you add more soy and sesame oil, it will spoil this food. The method is just mixing all the ingredients. The cooking procedure of this food is simple as well. The taste is also good. I usually make this food. If you feel bothered and annoyed, just make this food and you will feel fine. Nowadays, I try to make it but the taste is different. Why is the taste different? I guess the answer is I changed preference. When I was a child, I was thankful for everything even small things. But nowadays, I experience to eat many foods. I know what delicious food is. I know too many things. This food is very cheap and insignificant but I have a childhood memory related with this food. My mother made it and I was thankful to eat that, this is the sentimental value of this food. So when I eat this food, it reminds me of my childhood. How about you?

Eating delicious food is good but it’s better if your favorite food reminds you of an unforgettable memory while you eat your special food.

“BUDAE JJIGAE”

There are a lot of delicious foods in Korea, such as fried foods, stewed foods, salads and steamed foods. Cooking food is a difficult process. For example, Korean foods have detailed standard and great taste, so chefs are always careful when they cook Korean recipes. But foreigners think Korean foods are spicy because almost all Koreans use some spicy pepper in their foods. My favorite food is budae jjigae. The English name is spicy sausage stew. That’s why I love sausage.

Budae jjigae is an unusual name and it means the “army stew”. It is said that very poor Koreans warmed the leftover foods which the United States Armed Forces ate. Those foods are thrown away by the U.S.A. corps, and Koreans ate them to solve a meal. At that time, the United States Armed Forces are stationed in Korea after the Korean War ended. The long story of “BUDAE JJIGAE” began from food garbage and food materials thrown away by the United States Armed Forces corps, so this was the sad history of Korea. In my case, I can make this well but beginners can do it.

The food ingredients are various, such as minced meat, Kimchi, various ham, vegetables, canned beans, and red pepper sauce. Kimchi is the most important thing and the recipe is simple. First, put all the ingredients in a pot with pork broth. Second, put some Kimchi juice in a pot. Lastly, boil all the ingredients and put the beef seasonings. This is how you make a delicious budae jjigae.

We could eat it every weekend in Hello English School. It is very delicious, so I am happy every weekend. But I cannot eat that anymore in school since I’m going back to Korea. So, the food and budae jjigae will remind me of Iloilo.

“RICE BALL”

My recipe for today is ‘rice ball’ which is also called as ‘joomeokbob’ in Korean. It’s a food that is crumbled with rice and some ingredients. Rice ball was made during the Korean War I guess. It was hard to cook foods during the war. In many Korean War movies or dramas, we can find plain rice ball there. I usually make or eat rice balls when I’m busy because it is super simple to make. This food is so delicious that everyone likes it. You can make any rice ball with your own ingredients.

So in this essay, I’m going to introduce “Tuna-mayo rice ball”. You have to prepare four small bowls of short-grain rice (which makes about 7-8 balls), 1/2 red bell pepper, 1/3 green bell pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. You also need to prepare 1/2 can of tuna and 1 ½ tablespoon of chopped onions. If you ready all the ingredients, follow the recipe below.

First, prepare the rice. Make sure the cooked rice is not too moist/watery. Rice will taste better when you cook with 3-4 pinches of salt. Then chop red and green bell peppers similar in size to that of black sesame seeds. Combine the rice and vegetables into a bowl, add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and mix them well. Remove the tuna from the can and squeeze it to drain. Mix the mayo, tuna, chopped onion all together in a bowl. Make rice into a ball any size you want. Gently press the center of rice ball with the finger to make space. Then place your tuna into the space. Close the top of rice ball. Add small pinches of rice if needed and keep pressing the rice balls firmly into a ball shape. Finally, you can enjoy your meal!

7-8 balls are good for one person, add more rice if you need more. You can change your ingredients every time you cook. So I hope this recipe will help you make your rice ball.

“Toppokki”

I would like to introduce one of my favorite food and recipe. Everyone likes it as much as Koreans do. It is easy to make and has a reasonable price and good taste. Probably, anybody can eat it. Do you know about “Toppokki”? It is a typical Korean food. Although it looks cheap and light, it is certainly our food.

The Toppokki nowadays is made of pepper paste and rice cake and it was developed after the Korean War. In the past, it was usually mixed with roasted beef in soy sauce and rice cake. It was only served during gatherings at the royal court.

So how is this wonderful dish prepared? First, ready the ingredients such as rice cake, fish cake, spring onions, crushed garlic, chopped onions, red pepper paste, red pepper powder, starch syrup then put the prepared ingredients into the bowl.

You had better boiled the rice cake beforehand because it must be mixed well with other ingredients. As you keep the heat low on the pan, slowly stir until it boils and wait until it is cooked.

I think the most important ingredient is the red pepper paste since this is what makes toppokki taste good. To make good red pepper paste it must be fermented with red pepper powder, additional rice flour, malt, soybean powder, and a little salt.

The Toppokki can be made into a variety of side dishes such as mixed noodle toppokki which is also good and delicious. It’s possible to make it in the house and wherever you want it. In fact, it is even available in stores. It is easy to buy because there are a lot of stores that sells it. And also there are special areas in Seoul, Korea that sell it. We call that Sindang-Dong Toppokki. In here, the toppokki is made like a stew so it’s different from others but it also has a good taste.

We always look for better foods but we are a little satisfied because we really do not know what is good and delicious. Too expensive, best looking, and healthiest foods are not good for us. We have to think if it matches our tastes about food well. The Toppkki is familiar food to us and also from now on, it will be liked by everyone.
