The Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO), in partnership with GIZ Philippines through the TRANSCEND Project, successfully concluded the second day of the ๐๐น๐ผ๐ถ๐น๐ผ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ป (๐๐ฆ๐๐ฃ) Workshop on August 6, 2026, at Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo, Iloilo City.
Building on the momentum of the first day, the workshop gathered representatives from coastal Local Government Units (LGUs) across the province of Iloilo to collaboratively shape strategies for the conservation and sustainable management of the provinceโs rich coastal and marine biodiversity. The activity served as a venue for participants to validate biodiversity information, identify key threats and priorities, and recommend site-specific actions that will strengthen the Iloilo Provincial BSAP.
Joining the workshop were representatives from the Iloilo Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region VI (DENR VI), Iloilo City Planning and Development Office, Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Haribon Foundation, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). Their technical expertise and sectoral perspectives enriched the discussions and reinforced the importance of a whole-of-government and multi-stakeholder approach to biodiversity conservation.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in collaborative planning sessions focused on assessing the current state of coastal and marine ecosystems, identifying priority conservation areas, and developing strategic actions that respond to local realities while supporting the objectives of the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (PBSAP).
The workshop also builds on the foundation established during the first Iloilo BSAP Training and Workshop held on February 19-21, 2025, which was technically spearheaded by the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PhilBio). The initial capacity-building initiative equipped provincial and local stakeholders with the knowledge, tools, and technical guidance necessary for biodiversity assessment, planning, and mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into local development processes. The current workshop advances those earlier efforts by translating technical knowledge into concrete, locally driven strategies and priority actions that will form the Province of Iloiloโs comprehensive Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
