UPV Gender and Development Program

UPV Gender and Development Program Center for gender and development studies for a gender responsive university and gender fair society.

We started in 1989 as core of women from the three UPV campuses (Iloilo, Tacloban, Cebu) who were interested in promoting the welfare of other women. The UPV Women’s Desk in 1990 was then established as an organization of women and men from the various sectors and colleges of UPV who were interested in women’s studies and women’s welfare. The UPV Gender and Development Program (GDP) became institutionalized upon the approval of the Board of Regents on April 17, 1997.

As of 12:00 PM today, Sept. 3, the DENR-EMB has categorized the air quality index of Iloilo City as very unhealthy as a result of the haze affecting the Philippines. Constituents in the Iloilo City campus are strongly urged to wear face masks to protect themselves. As a precaution, those in the Miagao campus are also encouraged to do the same.

How do experiences of violence vary by SOGIE among Filipino adolescents?

A new PIDS Discussion Paper finds that sexual minority adolescents have higher odds of domestic violence and bullying than their heterosexual peers. The study also identifies differences in risk associated with gender expression and calls attention to the need for inclusive child protection and antibullying policies.

Periods are a normal part of life. Yet across Asia and the Pacific, stigma and harmful norms continue to limit access to essential products and information.

Too often, this leads to women and girls missing school, work and daily activities, restricting their rights and opportunities.

must be understood, respected and accessible to all. It is not a luxury but a fundamental need linked to dignity and gender equality.
