Governor Hon. ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ ๐’. ๐‡๐š๐ญ๐š๐ฆ๐š๐ง personally visited the workshop to show his support and emphasize the importance of proactive planning for the possible impacts of El Niรฑo. Recognizing the risks that El Niรฑo may bring to agriculture, water resources, food security, livelihoods, and other critical sectors, the Governor highlighted the need for a comprehensive contingency plan to ensure that the Province is prepared to respond effectively and protect the welfare of every Basileรฑo.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the City and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (C/MDRRMOs), members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Provincial Engineering Office (PEO), Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (PVET), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Isabela and Lamitan Water Districts, and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

Also in attendance were representatives from BARMM offices and ministries, including BARMM READi, the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), together with representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard Station Basilan, Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station Lamitan, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) BARMM, Basilan Police Provincial Office (BPPO), and the 1101st Infantry Brigade.

The workshop was facilitated by resource speakers from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)โ€“BARMM, whose technical guidance greatly contributed to the formulation of the Provinceโ€™s El Niรฑo Contingency Plan. The workshop also included the review and refinement of the Provinceโ€™s existing contingency plans for flood, storm surge, and tsunami, where the plans were thoroughly reviewed by the OCD and all participating agencies to ensure that their contents are updated, relevant, and aligned with current hazards, risks, and response mechanisms.

This workshop would not have been successful without the active participation, collaboration, and commitment of all participating agencies, stakeholders, and the resource speakers from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)โ€“BARMM. Their valuable expertise and support played a significant role in strengthening the Provinceโ€™s disaster preparedness.

Although the contingency plans are still being finalized, the workshop has strengthened inter-agency coordination and preparedness, ensuring that Basilan is better equipped to respond to the possible impacts of El Niรฑo and other hazards.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)โ€“BARMM, all participating agencies, and stakeholders for their continued support and commitment to building a safer and more resilient Basilan.

๐Ÿ’กALAM NYO BA?
