Across the municipalities of Basilan, clean-up drives are being strengthened and continuously implemented to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites and reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
Through the collective efforts of our Local Government Units (LGUs), Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), community leaders, and residents, we can keep our surroundings clean, remove stagnant water, and eliminate containers and areas where mosquitoes may breed.

The Integrate Provincial Health Office - Basilan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health - BARMM, successfully conducted the Blindness and Disability Program in the municipalities of Sumisip and Tipo-Tipo. The activity was carried out in coordination with the Sumisip Rural Health Unit and Tipo-Tipo Rural Health Unit to bring essential eye and disability-related health services closer to communities.

The program aimed to promote early detection, proper assessment, referral, and management of individuals experiencing visual impairment and other disabilities. Health workers also provided health education and guidance to patients and families on available services and appropriate care.

Through the continued partnership of MOH-BARMM, IPHO Basilan, and local health facilities, the program strengthens community-based health services and supports efforts to ensure that persons with disabilities and those at risk of blindness receive timely, accessible, and appropriate healthcare.

The Department of Health – Health Human Resource Development Bureau (DOH-HHRDB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health–BARMM and in coordination with the Integrated Provincial Health Office - Basilan, conducted the Field Validation and Evaluation Visits (FVEV) for the Human Resources for Health – National Health Workforce Support System (HRH-NHWSS) in selected Rural Health Units across Basilan from August 11–13, 2026.

The three-day activity aimed to validate the implementation of the HRH-NHWSS program, assess workforce deployment and utilization, review personnel records and accomplishments, and ensure compliance with national and regional human resource standards. The evaluation team also engaged with local health managers and RHU personnel to identify operational challenges, document best practices, and provide technical recommendations for strengthening health workforce management.

The findings from the FVEV shall serve as accountability checks insofar as the policy intention of these programs is to address health labor market failures in the local health system. The activity underscores the continuing partnership among DOH-HHRDB, MOH-BARMM, and IPHO Basilan in promoting an efficient, accountable, and responsive health workforce system that supports quality healthcare delivery and improved health services for communities throughout the province.

Ang kahalagahan ng Family Planning ay bilang isang responsableng hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas, mas malusog, at mas maayos na kinabukasan ng bawat pamilya. Sa pamamagitan ng tamang impormasyon at access sa mga serbisyong pangkalusugan, binibigyang kapangyarihan ang mga mag-asawa at indibidwal na makapagplano ng kanilang pamilya ayon sa kanilang kakayahan, kalusugan, at pangarap sa buhay.

Hindi lamang ito tungkol sa pagitan ng panganganak, kundi tungkol din sa pagprotekta sa kalusugan ng ina at anak, pagpapabuti ng kabuhayan ng pamilya, at pagbibigay ng mas magandang oportunidad sa bawat miyembro ng tahanan.

Planuhin ang kinabukasan. Pangalagaan ang kalusugan. Suportahan ang Family Planning para sa isang mas matatag at maunlad na Basilan.

Dahil sa mga kasalukuyang naitalang kaso, nananawagan ang IPHO Basilan sa mga komunidad na paigtingin ang mga hakbang sa pag-iwas sa dengue, lalo na sa pamamagitan ng wastong kalinisan sa kapaligiran at pagpapalawak ng kaalaman tungkol sa sakit.

Ang regular na paglilinis ng paligid, pag-aalis ng naipong tubig, at agarang pagpapatingin sa health facility kapag may mga warning signs ay makatutulong upang mabawasan ang panganib ng malubhang dengue at pagkalat ng sakit.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office - Basilan joins the observance of Family Planning Month this August 1–31, 2026, promoting informed, responsible, and healthy family planning among individuals and couples across the province.

Anchored on the theme “Tara, Usap Tayo sa Family Planning,” the campaign encourages families to openly discuss reproductive health, make informed choices, and access appropriate family planning services. The Ministry of Health–BARMM, through the Integrated Provincial Health Office Basilan, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), successfully conducted the Rollout Training on Contact Investigation, Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT), and the 2HRZE/2HR Treatment Regimen. The activity gathered tuberculosis program implementers from the 11 municipalities of Basilan and two district hospitals to strengthen the province’s capacity in TB prevention, detection, and treatment.

The training equipped participants with updated technical knowledge and practical strategies for contact investigation, initiation of TPT among eligible contacts, and proper implementation of the 2HRZE/2HR regimen in accordance with national TB program standards. It also emphasized timely case finding, patient-centered care, and improved treatment outcomes.

IPHO Basilan expressed its sincere appreciation to Mr. Eldhi Francis B. Alibangbang, RN, Nurse I of Lamitan City Health Office, for serving as one of the resource speakers and for sharing his expertise and commitment to advancing tuberculosis control efforts across Basilan. TUMAHUBONG, Sumisip, Basilan — The Integrated Provincial Health Office - Basilan in collaboration with the Sumisip Rural Health Unit conducted its second dental services visit in Barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip, reinforcing its commitment to providing accessible oral health care to underserved communities.

The activity delivered free dental consultations, tooth extractions, oral examinations, and preventive oral health education to children and adults. The dental team also promoted proper oral hygiene practices and the importance of regular dental checkups to prevent common oral diseases.

The second visit aimed to continue treatment for previously assessed patients and extend services to additional residents who were unable to attend the initial outreach activity. Health workers emphasized that sustained community-based dental services are essential in improving oral health outcomes and encouraging early treatment of dental conditions.

The initiative was carried out through the collaborative efforts of IPHO Basilan and local health personnel in Sumisip, ensuring that residents of Tumahubong received quality dental care closer to their homes while strengthening preventive oral health services in the municipality.

The second day of the Training on Heel Prick Method, Long-Term Follow-Up, and Expanded Newborn Screening (ENBS) Policy was held at Lamitan District Hospital, where participants engaged in supervised, hands-on training to strengthen their practical skills in newborn screening.

Healthcare workers performed actual heel prick procedures under the guidance of experienced facilitators, allowing them to apply the knowledge gained during the lectures on the first day. The training emphasized proper specimen collection techniques, correct handling of dried blood spot cards, infection prevention practices, and adherence to established quality standards to ensure accurate screening results.
Participants also received mentoring on documentation and counseling of parents. The practical exercise reinforced the importance of competency and precision in delivering quality newborn screening services.

The activity was conducted through the collaborative efforts of the Integrated Provincial Health Office - Basilan, the Ministry of Health–BARMM (MOH-BARMM), Newborn Screening Continuity Clinic-ZCMC and the Newborn Screening Center–Mindanao. IPHO Basilan extends its sincere appreciation to MOH-BARMM and NSC-Mindanao for their invaluable technical support and expertise, which greatly contributed to the success of the training. Special thanks are also extended to Lamitan District Hospital for generously hosting the practical sessions and supporting this important capacity-building initiative.
