We are proud of you, Hon. Associate Justice Edilwasif Tapsiril Baddiri, Court of Appeals of the Philippines!

From the shores of Sulu to the halls of the Court of Appeals โ€” ๐—๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—˜๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—น๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ณ ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ถ's story is one for the books.

Born on December 13, 1975, and a full-blooded ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ด from the Sulu Archipelago, Justice Baddiri didn't just climb the ladder of the Philippine legal system โ€” he helped build a wider rung for the rest of us to follow.

His academic path alone is something to pause and appreciate. He earned his ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜„๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ผ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฎ ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐˜„ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ, then went on to win a ๐—™๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฐ โ€” one of the most competitive academic grants in the country. That brought him to the ๐—๐—ผ๐—ต๐—ป ๐—™. ๐—ž๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐˜† ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—น ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—š๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜†, where he completed his ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—ฃ๐˜‚๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—”๐—ฑ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฒ. Ateneo. Harvard. Fulbright. And he carried all of that back home โ€” back to the Bangsamoro people.

Before the Court of Appeals, he served as a legislator in Sulu, gave pro bono legal counsel to indigent clients, championed human rights cases, and taught the Philippine Constitution to the next generation. He spent five years as a ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐— ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜€, then entered the judiciary in 2015 as Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 115 in Pasay City, eventually rising to Executive Judge.

On February 24, 2025, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed him He took his oath before Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo on April 11, 2025 โ€” becoming the fifth Tausug jurist to ever sit on the appellate court.

Fifth. In the entire history of the Philippines.

And he's still going. As ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐— ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—”๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, he continues to push for Shari'ah court modernization and the deeper integration of Islamic legal tradition into the national justice system. As a key convener of the ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ด ๐— ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜€ ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ, he's investing in the generation that comes after him.

This is what Bangsamoro excellence looks like. Rooted in faith, sharpened by education, and devoted to justice for all. ๐Ÿคฒ๐Ÿฝ

As we commemorate this sacred occasion of sacrifice, faith, and obedience to Allah Subhanahu wa Taโ€™ala, may the spirit of Eidโ€™l Adha strengthen our commitment to compassion, unity, and service to one another.

While I continue to partake in this blessed Hajj journey in Makkah, the Bangsamoro people remain constantly in my thoughts and prayers. In every duโ€™a, I pray for lasting peace in our homeland, for stronger and more resilient communities, for the well-being of every Bangsamoro family, and for a future guided by justice, harmony, and shared prosperity.

I also fervently include in my prayers our brothers and sisters in Palestine and all communities around the world experiencing hardship, oppression, and conflict. May Allah grant them protection, strength, relief from suffering, and a just and lasting peace.

Eidโ€™l Adha reminds us of the profound lessons of sacrifice and devotion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS)โ€”that true faith is manifested through sincerity, humility, and our willingness to serve humanity for the sake of Allah.

May this blessed celebration inspire us to extend kindness to those in need, strengthen the bonds within our communities, and renew our collective hope for a peaceful and progressive Bangsamoro.

From Makkah, I extend my warmest greetings to all. May Allah accept our sacrifices, prayers, and good deeds, and may He continue to shower our people and our nation with His mercy and guidance.
