The City Government of Isabela de Basilan, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) led by CENR Officer Forester Albino B. Orbecido, joins the nation in celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Month this October 2026 with its theme "Empowering Indigenous Peoples: Strengthening Rights, Culture, and Ancestral Domains."

CENRO continues to support and lead programs that promote environmental protection, sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community participation, while recognizing the importance of Indigenous knowledge and the rights of Indigenous communities in caring for their ancestral lands.

This month-long celebration recognizes the invaluable role of Indigenous Peoples as stewards and guardians of the environment and ancestral lands. Let us continue to listen to Indigenous voices, honor their traditions, protect their ancestral domains, and strengthen partnerships toward a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable Isabela City.

Teachers do more than teach lessons inside the classroom. They help shape young minds to understand the world around them, care for their communities, and become responsible stewards of our environment.

We recognize the important role of teachers in building a generation that values nature, protects our surroundings, and understands that caring for the environment is everyone's responsibility.
