1101st INFANTRY (GAGANDILAN) BRIGADEON THE CONDUCT OF TRI-BASILAN 2026

The 1101th Infantry (Gagandilan) Brigade, Philippine Army, assures the safety and security of the participants of Tri-Basilan 2026 that is scheduled on 08 November 2026 at Malamawi Island, Isabela City, Basilan. The Brigade remains committed in securing the successful and peaceful conduct of this event.

The recent vehicular ambush in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan, involving personnel of the 45th Infantry Battalion, occurred in the context of the Brigade’s continuing campaign against lawless groups involved in illegal drug and other criminal activities. The Brigade remains resolute in its pursuit operations to bring those responsible to justice, while ensuring the welfare and safety of its personnel and the civilian community. Pursuit operation is contained in an area in Tipo-Tipo alone, not in the whole province of Basilan. Basilan is secure, Basilan is peaceful.

The Brigade is closely coordinating with concerned security units, local government authorities, and the event organizers to ensure the safety and protection of all participants, racers, organizers, and spectators throughout Tri-Basilan 2026. Appropriate security measures is highly implemented before, during, and after the event.

The Brigade calls on everyone to remain vigilant, follow established security protocols, and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Your safety remains our paramount concern as we work together to make Tri-Basilan 2026 a safe and successful celebration of sports, unity, and the beauty of Basilan.

The 6th Special Forces “LIONHEART” Battalion, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey A. Fabros, Commanding Officer, joined the Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony and Renewal of the Pledge to the AFP Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards and the Oath of Allegiance on 05 October 2026, in observance of the 36th AFP Code of Conduct Anniversary.

MSg Edgar A. Amparado, Acting First Sergeant, led the renewal of the pledge and oath, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of LIONHEART personnel to uphold the highest standards of military professionalism, integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct, while embodying the core values of Honor, Patriotism, Duty, Solidarity, and Loyalty to the Constitution.

Also featured during the ceremony was the reading of the message of the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP), delivered by Maj Rene T. Ibao, Executive Officer. The message emphasized the vital responsibility of every AFP member to uphold the standards of conduct expected of the profession of arms and preserve the trust and confidence of the Filipino people.

The activity served as a solemn reminder that the uniform carries not only authority, but also a sacred responsibility to serve with honor, lead with integrity, and remain faithful to the Constitution and the Filipino people.

𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑-𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐘 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐇 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐋 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒

The 6th Special Forces “LIONHEART” Battalion, under the guidance of Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey A. Fabros, Commanding Officer, demonstrated its readiness to respond to emergencies as the unit augmented inter-agency search and retrieval operations in Brgy. Kapayawan, Isabela City, Basilan.

On the evening of 30 September 2026, Mr. Nasser M. Hugo, 53, a resident of Brgy. Lumbang, Isabela City, Basilan, was reported missing after being swept away by strong river currents. The Bureau of Fire Protection – Isabela City initially received the report and coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard – Isabela. Despite initial search efforts, the victim had not yet been located.

Before noon of 01 October 2026, the 6th Special Forces Battalion was tasked through the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) to augment the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

The unit’s Scuba Diver Qualified Personnel, together with the 19th Special Forces Company, led by Second Lieutenant Edrain Nico A Tavares, immediately proceeded to the incident area. Working closely with CDRRMO-Isabela City and the Philippine Coast Guard – SOU Central Pasangen Substation, the team conducted planning, coordination, and preparations before carrying out search and retrieval dive sweeps along the assessed stretch of the river.

The operation was temporarily suspended late in the afternoon due to rising water levels and hazardous river conditions, prioritizing the safety of the responding personnel.

Later that evening, the body of Mr. Hugo resurfaced and was immediately recovered by his relatives.

This operation highlights the readiness, responsiveness, and specialized capabilities of the LIONHEARTS, as well as the importance of strong inter-agency coordination during disasters and emergencies. Through unified efforts, timely coordination, and the commitment of responders on the ground, agencies continue to work together in serving and protecting the community.
