1Lt. Marie Sol L. Salazar began her journey as an officer candidate, completing months of training before a permanent injury required her to undergo hip replacement surgery. The injury resulted in a P3 classification, making her unable to continue on the path toward commissioning. After another opportunity to complete her officer training was eventually cut short, she was terminated from the program in December 2021.

Instead, 1Lt. Salazar applied for special enlistment and began serving as an Enlisted Personnel in May 2022. She eventually became a Corporal and found purpose as an instructor and curriculum developer at the Training Command, Philippine Army (TRACOM). Although she had already accepted that becoming an officer might no longer be possible, she continued to serve with the same commitment.

Then, in January 2025, an unexpected opportunity came. She was given the chance to finally complete her Officer Candidate School journey—something she once believed was no longer possible.

Her graduation was not the end of the struggle. She still had to overcome limitations brought by her condition, age, and circumstances. She pursued a Reserve Commission, faced the Board, and took on demanding military courses, including the Scout Ranger Orientation Course, Tactical Intelligence Course, CMO Module, and the Adjutant General Service Officer Basic Course, which she completed on 21 August 2026.

1Lt. Salazar's injury changed her path, but it did not change her purpose. When one door closed, she found another way to serve. When the dream of becoming an officer seemed impossible, she continued working, learning, and giving her best until another opportunity came. Today, she carries the same promise that has guided her throughout her journey: to serve the country to the best of her ability, whatever the rank she may hold.
