The Sultan Kudarat Police Provincial Office (SKPPO), under the leadership of PCOL MARVIN A FONTALVA, Acting Provincial Director, participated in the 1st University Presidentโ€™s Pickleball Tournament held at the Covered Court, Narra Park, Barangay Kalawag II, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, on August 31, 2026.

The activity brought together representatives from various sectors, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and stronger relationships among participating government and academic institutions. The tournament also promoted physical fitness, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle among personnel and participants.

A key highlight of the event was the Ceremonial Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among SKPPO, represented by PCOL MARVIN A FONTALVA, Acting Provincial Director; the 1202nd Community Defense Center, Regional Community Defense Group 12 (12RCDG), represented by LTC LITO B MAGHUYOP, INF (PA), Director; and Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), represented by Atty. CYRUS E. TORREร‘A, DPA, MNSA, President.

The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation and collaboration among the three institutions in advancing programs and initiatives that contribute to personnel development, community engagement, public safety, and institutional support.

The Sultan Kudarat Police Provincial Office (SKPPO), headed by PCOL MARVIN A FONTALVA, Acting Provincial Director, joined the nation in commemorating National Heroes Day through a Flag Raising and Wreath Laying Ceremony held at the Veterans Landmark, Barangay Kalawag II, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, on August 31, 2026.

The commemorative activity brought together government officials, military and police personnel, local government representatives, members of the academe, and community stakeholders to honor the courage, sacrifices, and enduring contributions of the nationโ€™s heroes.

The event was graced by Mr. Eddie S. De Asis, MDM, Provincial Director of DTI-Sultan Kudarat, as Guest of Honor and Speaker. Also in attendance were Atty. Cyrus E. Torreรฑa, DPA, MNSA, President of Sultan Kudarat State University; Ms. Marifi P. De Asis, Provincial Director, PSA-Sultan Kudarat; LTC LITO B. A highlight of the observance was the wreath-laying ceremony, which symbolized the collective respect, gratitude, and remembrance for the heroes who made significant sacrifices in service to the nation and its people.

The activity also served as a reminder to present-day public servants of their responsibility to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, courage, and selfless service exemplified by the countryโ€™s heroes.

In his address, Director De Asis emphasized the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices of the nationโ€™s heroes, noting that their courage, patriotism, and selfless service continue to inspire Filipinos to serve the country with integrity and dedication. Police Regional Office 12, under the leadership of PBGEN ALAN B MANIBOG, Regional Director, recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one caliber .38 revolver, and three rounds of live ammunition following information disclosed by a former member of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Malapatan, Sarangani Province, at about 2:25 PM on August 22, 2026.

The information was provided by โ€œCavite,โ€ identified as a member of Guerilla Front 71, Far South Mindanao Region, CTG courier, and non-PSR-listed personality, who voluntarily surrendered on July 24, 2026.

Acting on the disclosure, personnel of the 1st Sarangani Provincial Mobile Force Company, Malapatan MPS, SPPO Provincial Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit 12, Sarangani Maritime Police Station, Sarangani Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit, and Malapatan Municipal Law Enforcement Team proceeded to the disclosed location at Purok Malakotay, Barangay Patag, Malapatan.

The joint team successfully recovered the two IEDs, one caliber .38 revolver, and three rounds of live caliber .38 ammunition.

The recovered firearm and ammunition were brought to Malapatan MPS for proper documentation and disposition, while the IEDs were secured by the Sarangani Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit for appropriate handling and disposal.

PBGEN MANIBOG emphasized, โ€œAng bawat pagsuko ay pagkakataon para piliin ang kapayapaan. Ang impormasyong kusang ibinabahagi ay maaaring makapigil sa isang trahedya at makapagsalba ng buhay. Police Regional Office 12 conducted seven (7) anti-illegal drug operations, consisting of five (5) search warrant operations and two (2) buy-bust operations, resulting in the arrest of five (5) drug personalities, including one (1) High-Value Individual (HVI) from August 21โ€“22, 2026, from 5:23 AM to 3:13 AM.

The operations led to the confiscation of 34.799 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP236,633.20 and 1.2 grams of suspected ma*****na valued at PHP144.00, with a total estimated drug value of PHP236,777.20.

The operations also resulted in the recovery of one (1) caliber .38 revolver, eight (8) live rounds of ammunition, and assorted drug paraphernalia. Two target subjects evaded arrest and remain at large, with follow-up operations ongoing.

PNP SALUTES COURAGE, DISCIPLINE OF OFFICERS IN CAMARINES SUR INCIDENT

The Philippine National Police (PNP) commended its personnel in Camarines Sur for maintaining restraint and prioritizing peaceful intervention before taking necessary action to protect a fellow officer and prevent further harm during an armed incident on August 22.

Personnel of the San Jose Municipal Police Station responded to a report of an armed individual in Zone 1, Barangay Calalahan, San Jose, Camarines Sur. Upon arrival, the responding team, led by PSSg Noli M. Miraรฑa, initially attempted to communicate with the individual and peacefully de-escalate the situation.

The situation suddenly escalated when the individual charged at the officers and attacked PSSg Miraรฑa with a bolo, causing severe injuries to his left hand and face. His fellow officers immediately intervened to protect him and prevent further harm, taking necessary action to stop the threat.

PSSg Miraรฑa and the individual were promptly brought to a medical facility for treatment and later transferred to the Bicol Medical Center. The PNP continues to ensure that appropriate assistance is extended to its injured personnel.

Chief PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the courage and professionalism of the responding officers, particularly their effort to peacefully manage the situation before it escalated.

โ€œI commend PSSg Noli M. Miraรฑa for his courage and professionalism, and his fellow officers for immediately coming to his aid. Despite the danger they faced, they remained focused on protecting lives and bringing the situation under control,โ€ PGen Nartatez said.

โ€œOur officers are trained to talk first, de-escalate when possible, and use force only when necessary to protect life. Pero kapag may agarang panganib na, they must have the courage and sound judgment to act. That is responsible policing,โ€ he added.

The incident underscores the risks faced by police personnel who respond to calls for assistance, often without knowing what they will encounter upon arrival. It also highlights the importance of disciplined and measured police action, with the safety of the public and responding personnel kept at the center of every operation.

The response forms part of the PNPโ€™s Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens the capability of police personnel to respond effectively, responsibly, and proportionately to situations requiring immediate intervention.
