“BASYANG” FURTHER ACCELERATES AS IT MOVES CLOSER TO EASTERN MINDANAO.

The center of Tropical Storm BASYANG was estimated based on all available data at 295 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (8.0°N, 129.0°E).

Maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa
• Present Movement
Westward at 25 km/h
• Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds
Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 300 km from the center

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
• Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
• Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.
The surge of the Northeast Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
• Today: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, northern portion of mainland Cagayan, Aurora, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Visayas, and most of Mindanao.
• Tomorrow (06 February): Eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, northern portion of Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Agusan Del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro.

There is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with peak heights reaching up to 2.0 m within the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal communities of Agusan Del Norte, Antique, Bohol, Camiguin, Cebu, Davao Oriental, Dinagat Islands, Iloilo, Leyte, Misamis Oriental, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Southern Leyte, Surigao Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Cuyo and Cagayancillo Islands. HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is in effect over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao. Refer to Gale Warning No. 4 issued at 5:00 AM today.

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 5.0 m: The seaboard of Surigao del Sur.
• Up to 4.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands and Dinagat Islands; the seaboard of northern Davao Oriental.
• Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 4.0 m: The northern and eastern seaboards of Catanduanes; the eastern seaboards of Albay and Sorsogon; the northern seaboard of Northern Samar; the remaining seaboards of Eastern Samar and Davao Oriental.
• Up to 3.5 m: The northern seaboards of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur; the eastern seaboard of southern Davao del Sur; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands.
• Up to 3.0 m: The seaboards of Isabela, Aurora, northern Quezon, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and Agusan del Norte; the eastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan.
• Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands; the southern seaboard of Bohol.
• Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Palawan, Antique, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Southern Leyte, and Sarangani; the western seaboard of Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, and Aklan; the eastern seaboard of Oriental Mindoro; the southern seaboard of Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental; the remaining seaboards of Quezon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Bohol, Dinagat Islands, and Caraga.
• Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Other coastal waters have forecast wave heights of less than 2.0 m.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to “Other Hazards affecting Land Areas” for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
• BASYANG is now moving westward and is expected to turn west northwestward beginning tomorrow (06 February) morning. On the forecast track, the center of BASYANG will make its initial landfall over Surigao del Sur tonight. After crossing Mindanao, it is likely to emerge over Bohol Sea tomorrow morning, and may pass close or make another landfall over Siquijor and the southern portion of Negros Oriental by tomorrow afternoon. By tomorrow evening or Saturday (07 February) early morning, it will emerge over Sulu Sea, then traverse the northern portion of Palawan between Saturday afternoon and evening.
• BASYANG may further intensify prior to its initial landfall. It will then slightly weaken as it interacts with the landmass but it will likely remain a tropical storm. Further weakening into a tropical depression is forecast by Saturday and will be downgraded into a low pressure area by Monday (09 February).
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
