𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 || 𝟯 𝗖𝗧𝗚 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱, 𝟮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵

The Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) suffered another setback as three of its members were killed, and two high-powered fi****ms were captured in an encounter with the troops of the 61st Infantry Battalion on the boundary of Barangay Cagay and Danao in Leon, Iloilo.

The encounter occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, as the troops responded to reports from the civilian populace regarding the presence of armed members from the CTG's Sibat Platoon, Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay, who were engaged in extortion and other criminal activities in the area.

In addition to the three deceased Communist Terrorists, the troops also recovered two M16 rifles and subversive documents with high intelligence value. There were no casualties on the government side. This armed engagement on the boundary of Cagay and Danao marks the 6th encounter between the 61IB and the CTG in Leon town this year, approximately 1.5 kilometers away from Barangay Camandag, where the 5th encounter took place on September 12.

The leadership of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division reiterates its persistent call to the remaining Communist Terrorists to surrender and return to the government's fold.

"There will be no letup in our combat operations. We will pursue the remaining Communist NPA Terrorists (C**s) until none of them remain to sow violence and threaten the peace in our communities. Nevertheless, our call for them to lay down their fi****ms and avail themselves of the government's programs remains unchanged. Abandon the senseless armed struggle and live peaceful lives with your family and loved ones,” said MGen Marion R Sison, Commander, 3ID.

The 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion identified the top cadre of Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (SF, KR-P) along with two others, as one of the casualties during the encounter in Barangay Cagay, Leon, Iloilo on September 29, 2023.

The slain high-ranking NPA was identified as Rebecca Alfaro, alias Jing, the Secretary of SF, KR-P; and the two (2) others as Jimmy Macuana alias Dennis, member, Suyak Platoon, SF, KR-P and Gerly Tejeros alias Elay, 2nd Deputy Secretary, Education/ Medical Staff of SF, KR-Panay.

Rebecca was responsible for the planning and implementation of the CTG-initiated violent activities in Southern Panay; series of encounters and liquidation to suspected civilian informants, and the burning of equipment in Iloilo and Antique provinces.

She is facing a string of criminal charges to include International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, issued by Iloilo provincial Prosecutor’s Office, Ramon Q. Avanceña Sr, Hall of Justice, Iloilo City and attempted murder with the use of unlicensed firearm issued by Judge Teodulo Colada of Br, 67, of the 6th Judicial Region.

Likewise, Elay is also facing various criminal charges to include three (3) counts of attempted murder, frustrated murder, and multiple attempted murder.

In his message, MGen Marion R Sison, the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division Commander, said that the death of alias Jing is a step closer to end the local communist armed conflict here in Panay Island.

It is attributed to the ever-increasing support that the Army is gaining from all sectors of the society, including the local chief executives, various local and national government agencies, civil society and people's organizations and the private sector as well.

“Undeniably, this particular accomplishment came to fore because everyone have done its part through our so called Whole-of-Nation Approach in fighting a common enemy. But most importantly, this happened because of the support of the local populace," MGen Sison ended.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Rogelio Posadas. The loss of any life is always tragic, and we mourn with the family during this difficult time.

We also want to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment in maintaining peace and order in Negros. Our mission is to eliminate threats posed by Communist NPA terrorists and ensure the safety and security of the people of Negros.

We would like to emphasize that we do not condone violence, and we will always strive to resolve conflicts peacefully. However, when the safety and security of the people are at stake, we will not hesitate to take action.

We understand that there may be varying opinions on this matter, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to work towards a more peaceful and prosperous Negros."

Lieutenant General Benedict Arevalo was a young lieutenant and operations officer of the 66th Infantry Battalion based in the Neros Oriental city Guihulngan when he first confronted the Communist rebels under the Central Negros Front 1 founded by rebel priest Frank Fernandez. Now the commander of the Armed Forces Visayas Command, Arevalo tells DNX the recent battlefield win of the 62nd Battalion against the CN1 guerrillas is "very significant" as it shows even the mother front of the Communist Party is on a decline.
