DILG MEMORANDUM CIRCULAR NO. 2026-037
SAFER SCHOOL ZONES (SSZ) Under the Safer Cities and Safer Communities Initiative
Recognizing that the safety and well-being of learners, parents, guardians, and school personnel are essential to fostering a secure educational environment, the DILG supports the national government's efforts to promote safer communities through strengthened peace and order initiatives. Consistent with the objectives of the Safer Cities and Safer Communities Initiative and the policy direction set forth in DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2026-029 dated 08 April 2026, entitled "Encouraging the Enactment of Local Ordinances for Safer Cities: A Call to Action for Local Government Units," there is a need to implement enhanced protective measures in areas surrounding schools and along the routes regularly used by learners, teachers, school community and stakeholders before, during, and after school hours.
This issuance provide clearer and more practical guidance on the authorized roles, coordination arrangements, and operational
boundaries in school zones Of barangay tanods in support Of peace and order and public safety, while preserving the mandates of school authorities and other competent agencies.
